Totally devasted to hear this tragic news. Was just popping in to see if there was any news in the world of R's while waiting for my transfer from my hotell in Turkey to find it filled with Alan McDonald threads, I instantly feared the worst. But still just unbelievable, shocked and gutted.

A cornerstone in the team I fell in love with as a kid, a legend in every sence of the word.

Alan McDonald R.I.P. My thoughts are with your family and friends.

Northolt, thanks for all the links. Been wiping tears from my face for an hour. This will surely leave food for thought for my flight home.

One of the best centre halves that has played for QPR (while I followed them anyway). If some of the current players showed as much
pride in the shirt and loyalaty to the cause (team) we would be in a much better position. One of the all time greats

Alan McDonald R.I.P. My thoughts are with your family and friends.

Tribute for McDonald
Posted on: Fri 20 Jul 2012

A minute's applause will be observed prior to kick-off tomorrow when Millwall play Glenavon for former Northern Ireland defender Alan McDonald, who died suddenly last month.
McDonald, who played over 400 games for QPR, passed away aged just 48. He was due to be a special guest at tomorrow's game after helping arrange the friendly.
Speaking to the Belfast News, Glenavon manager Gary Hamilton said: "This game wouldn't have been made possible without the input of Alan.
Alan was good friends with Millwall assistant manager Joe Gallen who was at QPR when Alan was there.

Millwall have played friendlies against League of Ireland sides in the past, but this is their first game in Northern Ireland, so it is a great game for the fans who come along. But it will be tinged with sadness because of Alan's recent passing.
He was due to come along to the game as our guest, and I was looking forward to sharing a beer with him and Joe afterwards.
Sadly, that won't be possible now but we have invited Alan's wife Tonya and son Joshua along and we want to show them how much Alan meant to the football fraternity.
We will hold a minutes applause before the game as a small tribute to Alan.

It's nice to see he was so respected across the football fraternity. Do you think there is any chance of a pre-season friendly/testimonial in Northern Ireland?...

Would love to know his opinion of some of the primadonnas we've had at the club the last few seasons. There's a man who always gave 110% - RIP

He and his kind no longer exist I'm afraid, a real tough tackling defender and a nice bloke too. I had a beer with him once in Oscars in Greenford. He would make mincemeat of players these days. Makes John Terrible look what he is, a ****ing ten bob!
