Well, I wouldn't have pissed on him if he was on fire following his move north of the border, but here he
is back at Town and looking increasingly likely to turn out for the first team at some point this season.

How do people feel about his return?

In his previous spell I thought he was a damn good finisher with a lazy work rate.

But I have to say after the last few seasons having idiots like Bullard and Chopra in the squad it's good to
have a seasoned player like him back in the squad. I get the sense that he has come back to set a
professional example and to help Mick and Terry fight some of those dressing room battles.

It won't hurt if he bangs in a few goals either!
 
I've got impression he was primarily brought in to help out at the youth levels plus keep himself fit. I'm with you hampy on his previous spell his work rate appeared laboured but he could score goals. Will he be called on to lead the line? I doubt it. And he's hardly an impact sub. IMO i don't think we'll see him get too much playing time unless we have an injury crisis.
 
Well imo we have him now and he's on the playing staff and regardless of age and mixed opinion if the first choice strikers aren't scoring he will probably be given a chance . Mm is saying he's not far off the first team . And to be honest he won't have to score too many to secure his place . I for one have always liked Lee's "Sunday league pub team " style of play and I have a funny feeling he will get this eleventh hour chance and get us a few goals

I assume that's a joke, striker wise after Stefki Kuqi who would run through walls for the club, I cannot off the top of my head think of another striker than Alan Lee who ran/tried so hard for us. Perhaps John Stead on second thoughts, but he's right up there for me.

I didn't think his finishing was spectacular though!!!

If he had a lazy workrate in your eyes, I assume you never had the pleasure of watching Kevin Lisbie/ Adam Proudlock..............!
 
What a load of old bollocks Westlake. Dundee sums it up beautifully with 'pub team style of play'. Lee would've been a 40 a season striker if he'd tried.
 
For me, He was much more of the bustling striker Westlake is talking about than the lazy refined striker that Hamps remembered.
From memory, it was normally the case of Lee annoying defenders/ taking a clattering then setting up Pablo to put the ball away.
I dont think he put in the effort that he likes of Kuqi ever displayed but I would imagine most defenders would know they had been in a game after playing against Lee for 90 mins.
 
He certainly made his presence felt tractor bhoy, and I don't mean a lack of effort in terms of commitment, but let's face it he didn't run around alot, sprint or break into a sweat too often. There were times he gave up on balls or didn't run for things you see the top players go for and often win and create a chance from. Pablo on the other hand had tonnes of energy but Lee had a knack of being in the right place at the right time.

Now, for me Lee maximised his limited ability very VERY well in his career. He was by no means a fantastic player, but from memory, certainly tried hard the majority of games. I thought Lee tried very damn hard for us.

SERIOUSLY ??????????? Pablo had energy!?!?!?!? Apparently I talk bollocks, then you claim Pablo Counago has energy !!!!! That is absolutely HILARIOUS, he had about as much energy as my 94 year old nan - however, he also had a fantastic touch/footballing brain to make up for his horrific work rate.

That's the same Pablo, that was goldenshoe for Spain Under 20s in 1999. Also in that squad, were Marchena, Casillas, and XAVI.

One player got the MOST out of his career - Alan Lee, and the other, although he did have some great moments with us, ABSOLUTELY 100% wasted his career.

I'm sorry Hampy but have you watched either player, I don't understand how someone can come to that conclusion if they'd have actually watched both players?? From what I have seen of them you have just described the complete opposite of Pablo and Lee. It's like saying Marcus Bent had tonnes of energy and Kuqi was lazy!!!

In Lee's first season he almost single handedly kept us up, playing the lone role upfront, he used to work his socks off and put his body on the line. Never technically the best but he knew how to play the defender and use his body, abit like Grant Holt. He also showed a real determination to get on the end of crosses in the box, something we haven't had since. For me it wasn't so much he was in the right place at the right time but more so he had the determination to force the ball over the line..... I know we all have different oppinions on here but I just can't get over that you called him LAZY, I mean WTF!!!!

When we changed our game under Jim I think he became a lot less effective and he changed his game, we didn't need a player like him to do all the dirty work upfront anymore, we were more technical on the ball and played better football, he had better players around him and I don't think that suited his style. If he's fit and shows the form he did a few years ago for us, I think he could potentially do very well in a Mick McCarthy team and would be an ideal partner for McGoldrick
 
He was only with for a short while - everyone was on the Roeder / Gunn merry-go-round <doh> but unlike tossers such as Sibierski, he showed some passion.
As he would have done at Palace, and you guys before that.

He's apologised, apparently, for slipping on that (very fetching :emoticon-0105-wink:) yellow shirt and I have no doubt he'll be an asset. After a succession of liabilities like Chopra and Bullard, you could sure do with one <ok>
 
In my oppinion, he was a good solid championship player, who probably looked lazier than he actually was. His style of play was suited to the lower divisions where a lot of it was hoof ball. He reminded me of a pesky annoying little wasp, that just wouldn't go away, which defenders apparently didnt like. He was never gonna set the world alight, but was a solid pro.
Now, unless we are going to start to play Wimbledon style and hoof every ball from defence to attack, then i really don't see him doing anything of note. As much as i am losing belief in Nouble ( i was a fan), he will be more of a target man then Lee.
I know people are going to go on about how Phillips did it last season for Palace, but as a finisher, Phillips was twice the player of Alan Lee.
And, as for the person above who said that no one worked their socks off more or worked harder than Stead, well, seriously...i think that is the funniest comment i've heard in many a year.
I do though agree totally with the comment "One player got the MOST out of his career - Alan Lee, and the other, although he did have some great moments with us, ABSOLUTELY 100% wasted his career"

He's gone further than that, Cromer, according to TWTD, (which I'm sure you've read ;)) he's begging our forgiveness!<laugh>

Though having done my degree at the UEA I feel in no position to judge him!<laugh>
 
Alan Lee... GOAL!!!!

Perhaps it's nostalgia but I'm think Lee is the best partner we have for McGoldrick. We could capatilise on some of the brilliant crosses going in the box from Cresswell!!
 
Well a lot seem unconvinced by Nouble, and with Lee doing the apology regarding Norwich, to me it's patently obvious whether people want him to be/ or not, he will be in the squad within the month.
 
Not top goal scorer material but it would also give us another option other than hitting Murphy all the ****** time. In tighter games or on more physical occassions we can push Murphy out wide aswell.
 
I think Murphy is doing ok, based on his last couple of appearences.

Turned the game around v Boro & scored v Yeovil, I am happy with that contribution.


To say that Pablo 100% wasted his career is a tad harsh, I do think he could have done better but he did not do as badly as you say. (sorry Pablo is my favourite player in the moden era)
