Then we'd be left without someone to play the role that AJ plays

AJ has genuine quality, just doesn't always show it. Still a keep for me, unless someone comes in with a silly money offer. He ought to be in Brazil, but didn't produce often enough to show up on Woy's wadar and that is entirely his own fault.

Just found this - probably bullshit but stiull:

    http://www.caughtoffside.com/2014/0...-player-swap-deal-that-could-suit-all-parties

Liverpool could be set to make the most of Everton’s hesitation over a projected move to bring Sunderland winger Adam Johnson to Goodison Park according to the Daily Express.

    Read more Liverpool transfer news.

Roberto Martinez had displayed an interest in the 26 year old England man, who finished as the Black Cats top-scorer and leading assist maker last term, but a lack of a formal offer could allow Brendan Rodgers the chance to swoop.

With Stadium of Light boss Guy Poyet keen to bring in loan signing Fabio Borini on a permanent basis this source claims a deal could be struck that would see the two players swap sides.

The young Italian had an excellent season at the north-east side, playing a key role in the club’s miracle escape from almost certain relegation and helping Sunderland to the Capital One Cup final. However he does appear to be surplus to requirements at Anfield and as such could be used as a bargaining tool if Rodgers wants to sign Johnson.

Having opted against bringing in either Aly Cissokho or Victor Moses, who were on loan at Liverpool last season, Rodgers would appear to still be keen on bringing in a wide attacking option and Johnson may be the right man for the job.

    ---------------------------------------------

Now I love Borini - but I actually wouldn't want this to happen - mainly as Borini had a similar season to Johnson - not always necessarily amazing and, at times, very useful, but scored less goals (and less from anywhere but the penalty spot) and less assists. I'd prefer to keep Johnson

Sid - do you not realise that woy's wadar doesn't get this far north. Southamptoin are only on it because they're fashionable. He is, other than Walcott and Sterling, the best winger in the league according to Goals and Assists (and, probably, performances as well) Townsend appeared on the radar only because the press bigged him up - he's nothing special from what I've seen of him - but he'd still be there!

Sunderland not willing to let winger Adam Johnson leave on loan

Sunderland have no interest in allowing Adam Johnson to leave on loan.

The Black Cats’ winger has been at the centre of rumours in recent weeks, with first Hull City and now Everton said to be keen on a season-long deal for the former Manchester City man.

But the Chronicle understands Sunderland see no advantage in allowing one of their prize assets to join a Premier League rival on a temporary basis.

There is, however, a possibility that Sunderland would consider selling Johnson – but only if they could recoup the majority of the £10m they paid City for his services in 2012.

That would at least give boss Gus Poyet extra cash to fund a replacement – and which would not be the case if Johnson left on loan. Johnson’s form has been patchy during his two years on Wearside, but last season he did hit top gear in January when he scored seven goals in as many games and was named the Premier League Player of the Month.

England manager Roy Hodgson travelled to the North East to watch him against Hull in February but it turned out to be a wasted journey as Wes Brown was sent off inside five minutes and, with his side a man light, Johnson was unable to shine.

And there was no place for Johnson when the England squad for this month’s World Cup in Brazil was announced.

“Everyone would be saying that I was playing really well at City when I was getting into England squads,” said Johnson.

“But personally, I think this is the best spell I’ve had as a footballer.”

I personally would keep Johnson, unless we receive a bid of like £15m

There's gonna be a lot of new faces this season, and I think we'd be wise to keep the disruption to a minimum. Didn't work for Bruce and it didn't work last summer.
