I see you didn't actually bother to read my comments about Ainsworth stating he wasn't going to apply pressure to them. Watch back Andy Smith's post match interview and then you'll see what he means about that. There is more than one way to skin a cat, and clearly with a bunch of spineless individuals we have in this side, the treatment you wish to give them, won't be received in the manner you'd like..BUT -Ainsworth doesn't seem to (really) care ! He talks about not applying pressure on the players.. That is ridiculous....Ainsworth certainly doesn't seem to achieve much from the several players that are his 'signings' - Should I merely believe that he will motivate any new players next season ? -- it appears that Ainsworth won't be putting them under any pressure !! ... Footballers, even in Division 4 are fairly handsomely rewarded... Their 'carrot' is larger than most fans who pay their wages - - so should be the size of the 'stick' applied to ensure their performance... The 'stick, at times may need to be anally-inserted with maximum thrust !... Ainsworth is telling me ( and the players that he prefers to use a limp piece of celery !!........ I take this as an insult to my 100% commitment.... His laid-back attitude to the least expected discipline is inexcusable.. It is the reason for my (now) serious threat to not attend the next (( rest of )) home game(s)... Over most of the season, the football has been dire. There has been very little ( if any ) real effort.... Tactics and formations have been a mystery .. It's now one miserable defeat (heavy loss), after another...Ainsworth has lost the dressing room...The P 45 squad can't be bothered - .Why should I bother ? .... and I might make a 100% commitment to avoid Priestfield for (at least ) the rest of this season.
Hutton has another year on his contract you'll be happy to know.ALL OUT ...... that includes ALL the elephants in the room !
I am dreading who will be retained for next season... Ainsworth has talked about (( not his )) players not being good enough - but - many in the squad basically are 'his' players........ I will indulge Ainsworth and allow him to believe that many of the squad were not 'approved' by him --
So - let's talk about the 'elephant(s)-in-the-room.' ... I cannot believe that Ainsworth can justify retaining ( just about ) any of the P45 squad this Summer... These have, time & time again, shown that they indeed are NOT GOOD ENOUGH..... Do I have to list the thrashings we've had against the teams in the top half of the league - together with embarrassing results and woeful performances against those (few remaining) teams below us.
How can Ainsworth even think about retaining the rubbish in the side - NONE of them have displayed anything that hints that they are worthy... I will really despair if the likes of Clark & Hutton remain in the side (((( and I have said that I bet that both will still be in the starting 11 in August. )))) - HOW- HOW -HOW can Ainsworth justify himself if Useless & Lazy are retained ????...............................I'll also bet that if U & L remain at Gills, then we'll have another season full of Groundhog Days.
Certainly a fair assessment Ron. We're in an unfortunate position where the manager's job is bit of a poisoned chalice right now for whoever gets the job with us. When our American owners came in late December 2022, expectation levels around the club probably grew hundred-fold. A continued run of hiring and firing managers has left us in a league position the same in which the club achieved in it's first season under them and despite some managers having been well backed financially, we still somehow remain a bottom half League Two side. The promise of a two year plan under Ainsworth was hoped to offer a reset for the club, albeit fans want success yesterday, and from the start of January we've had relegation form so its understandable that some fans have become despondent already.Sorry to intrude but I would like to add my view
It all started so well with the longest unbeaten run for ages
Gareth was hospitalised. He tried to put it off to focus on the team's progression. That says something
He returned to a team that seemed to have fallen apart somehow and had to cope with that whilst not fully back to his best
Maybe he returned too quickly; I don't know - it seemed quick to me
He finds himself with players who aren't good enough and/or have lost interest (maybe because promotion hopes had disappeared and they were going to be out of contract - I don't know)
What I do know is that he does care, he got Wycombe competing way above their weight on a shoe-string budget. With players he acquired mainly on frees but ensuring they had the right attitude and would fit in. That is the only way the team can be stronger than the sum of the individual players
This summer, hopefully we will see good-byes to those he knows will not fit in/are not good enough and replace them with players he wants
He has come out and said players aren't good enough. For him to say that, he means business and he will turn this team round provided he doesn't have the wrong type of players imposed on him
Next season he will be stronger and the team will be stronger, I'm sure
Please don't let me hear he doesn't care. He cares more than any manager I know. I've met him a few times, talked with him, seen him in action pulling off the impossible. He is a great bloke, honest as the day is long. He will put everything into getting the club back into good times. The only way he will give up is if he has no control over recruitment and the owners lumber him with bad decisions resulting in excessive and unfair flack from fans. I ask you to give him a chance with his own team and respectable backing from the owners and full support of the fans. I know he will try his utmost to,bring some positivity to the club
Thankyou for your attention
PS this was great to see Guard of honour for Sam Vokes
My "narrow assumptions" as you call it, refer a very post you made within this thread on 28th March demanding Ainsworth resign, so unless you have significantly changed your mind, I believe there to be just cause and evidence to support the very notion that you aren't on Ainsworth's side. I will also ask, if you aren't bothered what the other 5999 Gills fans that you refer to think, then why should I give them the same attention?Pegleg - I am flattered that you should 'single-me-out, from the circa 6000 ( on average ),Gills fans that have attended Home games during the season - who also have their individual viewpoint.....You have not dared to presume their mindset - so - I'm not sure that you have the 'privilege' - or power to read my mind.....It appears that you are making 'narrow' assumptions about my thought process (((( when I actually withold a lot of what rattles around in my head.))... I will concede that I have found it easier to make derogatory remarks involving many aspects of the mechanics of a football club -- not just the players................... BUT - ultimately, the most critical judgement must be reserved for the 'performance' of the squad - leading to the spectacular results that Gills have had this season.... The results are the consequences of many factors -- not many of which can possibly receive anything but criticism. - or do you think that fans (( not just me )), are happy with the status quo ??.............................
................. So - until things change (( for the better )), any fan (( not just me )), has every right to be cautious - if not negative regarding prospects - but - (( and at risk of blowing your perception of my thought process )), I can see the potential positives of the staff musical chairs .. I am eager to see the recruitment Gills may attract.... I do expect Ainsworth to be true to his word - and shape the new squad to be more dynamic....- that is 'some' of what I am thinking.
Now, Pegleg - are you going to ask the other 5999 Gills fans what they think ? --- I'm not actually bothered what other people think - at the moment, the brutal facts may indicate that many are more negative towards GFC than I am.
ps - it appears that only Mrs alwaysright has the power to read my mind - as I seem to be able to get into trouble for what I think , let alone what I say.
