Bruges is fantastic, the Venice of the North.

 

Don't go to Amsterdam then!

 

Certainly don't go to Amsterdam. The place, though architecturally beautiful, is a dump now, a proper slum. Drug dealers on every corner, gangs of malefactors roaming free, and detritus piled up. Best avoided. If you want to visit the Netherlands, try Delft.

Bruges, as you say, is gorgeous and a jewel in the crown of Europe. Ghent is another fine place to visit in Belgium; the castle alone is worth the trip.

Trouble is, most cities are degrading at a rapid rate. I wonder why...?

 

That'll be the drugs, and the Dutch policy towards them.
However, since drugs (and other possible causes of urban decline) are not good news, they are best not debated further in this thread.
'Ahh...bad news' or 'current affairs and politics' might be more appropriate arenas.

Ibiza is great. First time for years I've driven on roads with no potholes. And loads of stars twinkling away up there.

 

I’m pushing to go back there - the clubby bit doesn’t interest me one bit but the North of the island is lovely

 

At 65 you're too old for clubs.

Bruges is lovely but spoilt now by excessive tourism. I’d stay clear these days . A real shame

 

Sounds like a stick would be more appropriate

Too many James Bond movies filmed there - From Russia with Love, Moonraker, Casino Royale...
Not to mention The Mummy, Indian Jones & the Last Crusade...
Feel like I've been there already.
