Regardless of politics, today is a celebration of democracy - something the citizens of China & Russia can only dream about. The inauguration of the 47th President of the United States Like him or loathe him (I am his No.1 fan) , it’s a magnificent democratic achievement to poll over 77,000,000 votes out of over 150m votes cast. The Land Of the Free, and the Home of the Brave
You say regardless of politics and then post a political post. I thought we weresteering clear of political posts. Someone is trying to stir the pot.
No political content at all. I was referring to the joyous celebration of democracy today. Only the Chinese & Russians will be unhappy folk today.
As an affirmation of the principle of Democracy, that being a foundation stone of freedom as opposed to autocracy or dictatorship, this I feel is a valid post. There are many forms of democracy and none of them are perfect. Debating the merits or drawbacks of differing democratic processes would fall into the category of off-topic politics, so I hope we don't go there. Also, expressing opinions on individual leaders (democratically elected or otherwise) would certainly be off-topic political. Since I won't ever partially edit / censor / redact any post by another member, the reference to the 47th President of the USA will remain as posted. That is a less bad option in my view than deleting the whole post. Rules and boundaries are also never perfect or beyond reasonable interpretation in a free-thinking society. To have them pushed occasionally is only to be expected, and welcomed.
Changing the subject completely, it was good to see the Village People perform in front of thousands of people last night in Washington.
A quick explanation for yesterday's deletions; The subject of the new US President was inevitably becoming divisive, so I thought it best that everything related to him be removed. No need to apportion blame, but taking that stuff down was best for ongoing harmony of the forum. An additional note; Please don't post anything concerning the Southport crimes. Even if what you wish to say does not seem political to you. I'm not going to tiptoe around the issue as I did earlier yesterday regarding the inauguration. Southport is off the agenda. That isn't only my call, it comes from the very top here.
Is it a case of if we’re not allowed to talk about things then they’re not happening? That’s why this country is in such a state - too bloody soft
There is free speech on this forum - on anything to do with Charlton Athletic, football in general or other sports. Everything else is off-topic. Off topic subjects can be mentioned (except the Southport crimes), but political opinions regarding any off-topic subject will be deleted.
You are sadly talking nonsense on Southport @lardiman although I understand why. The Welsh schoolboy Axel Rudakabana pleased Guilty in Court yesterday to the murder of three school girls, and over a dozen other serious crimes. It’s now a matter of public record, there is no sub judice. He is being sentenced on Thursday. The Prime Minister is giving a statement at 8.30am this morning about the Public Inquiry that is going to investigate among other things how this Islamic radical wasn’t detected earlier by the authorities. Im sorry that the facts here don’t suit the political agenda for certain folk (not you) but all of the above are a matter of public record now.,
I'm sorry that some people are unhappy. But this is after all a football fans' forum. Everyone knows there are many other forums and platforms where other subjects like news, current affairs and politics and be discussed, debated and argued with no limitations at all on free expression. Many of those subjects have great potential to divide people and foster bitterness and resentment. They are the very last things we need coming between us here. All points of view are welcome regarding Charlton Athletic, football and other sports. Whether or not those opinions are sometimes contrasting. For the sake of our little community here we cannot afford to fall out about matters which have nothing to do with our shared love of our football Club. The one thing that unquestionably unites us.
Im afraid that by deleting my posts you have ended my involvement with this forum Lardi. Everyone has personal read lines, and deleting posts on a personal whim and blatantly undermining the right to free speech is mine.
I'm sorry you feel that way, but it's your decision. In the past you were the one who constantly said that non-footballing subjects should not be discussed here on Not606 Charlton. Yet 99% of what I have had to delete since the no off-topic politics rule came in, has been posts made by you. Free speech of the kind you want will destroy this community. That is too high a price to pay, whether you think it is fair or not.
Again you have decided to act by deleting posts without any consultation with me. As a moderator I feel that my opinion doesn’t count. I don’t agree with some of the posts from Nick. But I reserve the right for him to have those views. Why we can’t debate them in a grown up and civilised manner I don’t know. I think by deleting the posts has fuelled the fire and lost us a valued poster.
