Unlike Nathan Jones, Trescothick and Key seem to be a great judge of a player. We are overloaded with good fast bowlers. Carse Atkinson, Woakes, Archer, Wood. Josh Tongue, who I rate, is coming back to fitness with the Lions. Stone is also decent. The batting of Bethell has been a revelation. Great judges like Sir Garfield Sobers and Brian Lara really rate him.

BBC Sports Personality of the Year used to be a must watch programme under Harry Carpenter & Des Lynam. I must admit that I have never heard of this year’s winner, a female runner. The BBC made a point of saying the last 4 winners have been women. I wonder if a straight white man is even allowed to win it these days ?
The credibility and place in our People's hearts of SPOTY was lost the year that Zara Phillips won it. That was when I tuned out anyway. It's a parody now, just like Eurovision. Decades past it's best.
