And how lucky are the other motorists and pedestrians out and about whilst you were driving with one eye !

To be honest, while last nights game got almost universal criticism (even Bowyer was angry,) there were a few positives. Maddison snd Pearce both got match time, plus a goal for Mads, and a number of youngsters got a match under their belts.

To be fair, I did look this up.

It may be difficult to believe, but according to the DVLA people are allowed to drive with only one sighted eye, as long as the eyesight they still have is good enough for them to pass the standard tests (reading a number plate at a set distance etc.) Depth perception is apparently not required.

    We learn something every day...

The same could be said of Dominic Cummings.
No news is definitely good news when it comes to that bloke.
But claiming he needed a 60 mile round trip to test his eyesight was a classic <laugh>

My daughter was blind in one eye from mid teens to mid 30s. In that time she was allowed to drive.

As it's the good news thread I will mention that 4 years ago they accidentally discovered there was some life in the eye, did a deep operation and that formerly dead eye is now the dominant one.

Sorry, but I'm not familiar with that one <confused>

No br***t outside the Br***t thread. I remember that rule.
Are we not supposed to discuss politics outside the News & Current affairs thread?
I might have to call for clarification...

Deputy Elfs @The mighty Elfsborg do we have a no politics rule on this forum?

Probably not popular with some since Johnson and Cummings are doing such a bad job.:emoticon-0102-bigsm. A bit off topic on this thread but there wasn't a politics ban.

    Well made points Ken.
Since Mr Cummings is unlikely to be popularly associated with good news, he is off-topic in this thread.

And although it may not be an official Not606 Charlton rule, I can see the merit in politics being generally left in the background outside the News & Current affairs thread. So I'm happy to bear that in mind for the future.

All in all, an equitable arrangement I hope <peacedove>

I'm glad you brought this up, because on the way back today (on a farm track) I closed one eye, and it was impossible to judge anything, but nature can compensate in most cases and although you can lose sight in one eye, you still have the processing power of two. My left eye is the weakest yet with my right eye not working the detail and depth of field were stunning, so much so that I could read a number plate at further the required distance. I had a few days on the farm tracks, told a police officer friend (I have seven lol) and had no problems. me and the missus both have one cousin that drives with one eye.

ps: This is how you should have posed that question. Sandman, how did you manage that, was it scary and did you have to let any authority like the DVLA know before you ventured out. Most would have answered your post with aggression. I'm better than that, and you know it.

I wish you well, but it's a sad day when a post on a "Good news" thread causes offence.

So what you write on a forum has a direct bearing on your driving skills? And I post madness?

Why do you have to destroy a thread that is supposed to bring a little joy into peoples lives? The only reason I can find is that you don't like people being happy.....that's a definitive answer by the way.

I think several of us have strayed off-topic a bit over the last day or two on this thread - myself included.
If we can do our best to 'respect the thread' (as the Sheriff used to say occasionally) then perhaps any good news can be enjoyed just a little more.

Granted this is just a 'good news' thread, not automatically by extension a place where peace and harmony must always reign.
But I hope it can be a thread that folks might be able to feel a bit better or happier about, after visiting every now and then to read the latest content.

    Thank you.

It's not a contest, she is happy with what they could finally do for her. She still needs glasses for the other eye but her life is changed.

The Pub Landlord is not an emotional man but did shed some tears that day.
