As a result of all this rain, there is some proper long grass in the rough at Royal St George's for the Open. Good. It means there won't be just a slugfest. What we need now is a good stiff wind, modern golfers don't like it up 'em. The bad news is that it's not on terrestrial TV any more.

I think it will be competitive.

Arter and Lee have the potential to be major influences. Solid at the back, with depth to cover anticipated centre half injuries. Wingers that can get forward quickly.

It's a good squad for Adkins to work with, see if he can recreate what he did at Southampton.

Getting back to pre-lockdown numbers, probably about 85%.

Big private party this weekend, numbers should be good.

Are the punters starting to sit inside again or in the garden - my local seems to be busy in the garden but still quieter inside , I’m wondering if that’ll change with the dropping temperature?

Quite a lot coming inside. The pool season has started and I have put a second team into the league, they are young and very keen and practicing most mights. My team is a division above them but they are determined to get promoted in their first season so that they can play us for bragging rights next year - so there's a nucleus of pool players in most of the time. Also the ladies darts resumes later this month.

We have also re-started the Sunday meat raffle, we have a very good local supplier, and the last few Sundays have been packed.

    We're getting there ...
