Back in the days of Emlyn Hughes and Bill Beaumont. Twas worth watching back then. I also liked it when Beefy Botham joined as captain. I doubt I'd even know any of the captains or contestants nowadays.
Traffic chaos in West London today. I had to drive to Hayes to pick up some metalwork for my company. That's a five mile drive from where we are based. It took two hours to get there and back. Hayes is where the substation is that blew up. Commuter traffic has been bad for hours. Still is outside my window at home now. Unbelievable that Heathrow Airport can be paralysed by one substation fire. Surely they should have their own generators. A place that size ought to have it's own power plant. Heathrow officials say they have got back-up systems, and that those systems worked. Well, if the airport was still 100% closed down, those systems are frankly not worth squat - beyond actually preventing a plane crash, which is presumably what they mean by "back-up systems".
I dread to think of the chaos, you have to fill sorry for the people flying in and out of the airport.
Another supermarket chain cuts in-store services https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cqx0v5xprz4o Sainsbury's has been particularly guilty of this since the Pandemic, but I'm sure they're all at it. In-store pharmacies are particularly badly missed when they close. I'm not so bothered about fresh fish counters and bakeries. But all supermarkets are dumbing down these days. And of course the small local shops they helped to drive out of business won't suddenly be springing back up again.
I can understand closing the cafe areas in the supermarkets as they may not be so popular, am surprised that the closing of so many branches. We used the one in Petts Wood a lot and thought it was an enjoyable experience and prices were reasonable.
Unbelievable https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cpq2g1lpz9xo The couple of drunk morons who wrecked the Paddington Bear statue are RAF engineers. Shame on them.
Their punishment: sent to a Peruvian rainforest where they must subsist solely on marmalade sandwiches. For ten years.
K-Pop https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cdxq309kexeo Sounds to me like the whole industry is flirting on the edge of abuse of minors. Five girls aged between 16 and 20 who have dared to speak up against a giant Music Corporation that controls their lives and demands that they be 'perfect' at all times. Then sets the Courts on them. I hope those stone cold media execs and their lawyers feel proud of themselves. What big men they are. South Korea already has the highest suicide rate among young people in the World. Their whole view of entertainment appears skewed towards bubblegum fantasy perfection and very dodgy exploitation of very young people. So-called K-Pop stars are being driven to take their own lives. And not even indirectly through drugs & partying etc. Directly - by the stress they are put under.
Has anyone else noticed how miserable petrol station workers are these days? No hello, goodbye, thanks, please - just a finger jabbing at the price on the screen. Maybe it's just my area.
Go to petrol stations with brances of M&S attached. The staff there seem a bit more personable. Better training I expect.
I've got to have a biopsy because of a rather alarming lump. I could really do without it. More to follow...
