I think the problems at Ipswich for the last decade or so have always been above the manager. Whoever they replace Lambert with will be largely irrelevant whilst Evans is there. If this is the first part of the rumoured sale of the club, then who knows? The rumoured buyers don't have terrible credentials, so I guess we'll see. This could be the start of a renaissance, or this could be another misstep.
When Mick McCarthy was there he did very very well with absolutely no budget. The fans thought they deserved better and promptly got relegated the following season. I think if Ipswich are going to be successful they need to copy the Norwich method, scout, get in young talent and sell on. Use funds to improve the youth and training facilities and repeat.
I still find it remarkable that Mick wasn't backed in the transfer market, despite doing very well, and managers before and after him received much better backing, yet had neither the results nor pedigree of McCarthy.
I think that this is another example of rich, but not mega rich, owners having second thoughts. Evans went in with the best intentions and I recall that he substantially backed Magilton and Keene but when that did not bring success he probably thought ' not again ' and has been trying to find a buyer for a long while. Having fallen out with Evans and, realising what a new broom normally does, Lambert probably took a smaller payout now whilst the going is good. He might not get the Celtic job but he has probably earned enough money down South to return home to his wife and family in Scotland and take a job with a smaller Club.

Ever since they've got rid of Mick, they've gone downhill, would love to see Mick reach the play-offs and get Cardiff promoted along with Norwich. Bet they would wish they never got rid of him then
I remember discussing with my parents and we said that the Ipswich fans should be careful for what they have just wished fir... then promptly got relegated!
Paul Cook is a good signing.

I completely agree with your points here. Why our fan base felt MM’s dull footy that kept us in that division was anything other than doing the only thing he could under the circumstances and better dispensed with is beyond me.Now we’re in div3 getting tonked by gillingham...
norwich is a club to admire and emulate for your strategy. You’ve been so resilient to relegations and so full of rejuvenation and reinvention.
Ive always felt east Anglia is better served by both teams being successful and at the top two tiers of our leagues. It impacts on the wider economy and society of our region.
without owners like yours I fear we’re a million miles from being back with you. Even if our current team was promoted somehow its 99% not good enough for the championship whereas your teams are all evolving, growing developing on an upward trajectory through youth, good coaching and a smart transfer policy. The team PL took up from the championship was mostly the team that competed well in the PL. we’d need to buy an entire new squad..

Any further news on a takeover for you? I agree, I like a friendly rivalry and like to win, but some media organisations blow it up beyond sense. I'd love to see both clubs competing in the Premiership again, it has been a while!
I do like our strategy and it has taken several years to start to be successful. The old 90 minute rule kills clubs like Norwich and Ipswich when the majority of the catchment is in the sea. Areas such as London probably have a catchment of 20 million people so getting the academy funded so we can take youngsters from around the country has helped a lot.
Dave succumbed to his cancer on the 27th June last year. In the beginning half of 2020 we posted back and forth on the thread association game whilst he was up at all hours of the night. He was a good one

take over sounds 50/50. ME might be hoping cook gets us up so we are worth a bit more. For me, the sooner the better. Its a crazy industry for people with crazy money and he’s just not got the pockets or the balls to invest what’s needed or the plan necessary to make a success of it. You might recall PL made a big show if getting our dilapidated stadium spruced up a bit? Unbelievable to me that a first team football coach had to do that:it’s Sunday league level! We can’t even organise an effective estates dept...Scary to be that wealthy and be the pauper in the playground but that’s the way English football is.
