Agreed. Mackay was similar to our own Jock Davidson - more a "protector" than someone who initiated "violence". On the subject of Bremner & for that matter Giles. Both of 'em were sneaky. dirty sods always goading the opposition, chipping away at their heels & ankles. They knew that they had Hunter to back 'em up if the going got tough, and to some extent "Big" Jack in the background. Wee Jimmy Johnstone took the piss out of 'em all in '70 in that famous European Cup -2-leg semi-final.
Continuing down memory lane, back in the mid 50’s and pre-bitter animosity days, my cousins brother was in the Leeds squad, we somehow did a dressing room visit on a match day at Leeds where I met the great (as he was known) John Charles. This was a pretty rare experience for a 10 year old from Hull in those days.
John Charles was probably the greatest ever British player. I was taken as a youngster by my grandad to see what he said was the greatest player he ever saw when he was in his prime but was too young to recall. Though I did see him when he returned to Leeds a few years later My dad's favourite game was seeing his two favourite players on the pitch together, Carter and Charles, at BP in a City v Leeds game. Seemed popular at BP. Though the caption says it was Leeds fans mobbing him, not like that embarrassing occasion when City fans mobbed Stevie G. please log in to view this image
Hunter made himself look a proper pansy there. Not so much bite yer legs as back peddling fairy. Could you see Whitehurst doing that?
Lived in Leeds for 3 years late 1960s early 70s.. Went to some Leeds games when City weren't playing or were away and it was difficult getting there. Even supported Wednesday in a Cup replay, which would amaze some who know me. Missed one City home game in that time, and there was a good reason for that due to City letting me down in a bet.. Missed a lot less than most Hull based folk did in that period. So keep your silly little remarks to yourself. Had family from Leeds, unlike so many ****ers from Hull who supported TWS, so could have legitimately supported them. But I was born in East Yorkshire so supported the only team from there.
I was thinking precisely the same. Wasn’t he meant to be a hard man? His arse falls out as soon as all 5ft 6 of Lee fronts up to him. What a massive fadge.
I found it on the internet, it was supposed to be someone's wedding - apparently they thought it would be a good idea to post the Leeds ****ers salute for everyone to see
