There is an idea that we are the ultimate creators, through our consciousness, we create.
A simple example of this is that man thought about the wheel and eventually manifested it into reality.
Maybe an afterlife exists for those who can conceive of it, and not for those who dismiss it?

    Scotoma -

It's there, but you don't see it.
If you don't see it, then to you it doesn't exist.
But it exists regardless of your awareness.

    We have a winner.

It was a quote from "The French Connection".

You win a free ride on Jen/Tina/Hornette/PISKIE

    Take yer choice.

    This.

When I splat a fly against the wall with a newspaper, I can't imagine that the 'soul' of that fly lives on anywhere. It would therefore be arrogant and delusional to believe that some part of me will live on after I snuff it.

In the short term, me, as I'd kick his ****ing head in as soon as he bent down to pray.

In the long term, him, as he would have a place at the right hand of God whilst I would charcoal in Hell.

    (1) I don't pray.
    (2) Fly's have a ganglion, not a brain
    (3) If it's a scientific absolute that all energy remains constant
what happens to the energy of a living being when it's physical body dies?

    <ok>

So you can distinguish between a 'regular' brain and a ganglion, yet have to ask why human death does not violate the Laws of Thermodynamics? <laugh>

Viking - Life is not a competition - but we can ALL be winners. You are entitled to your opinion - and who knows, occasionally you might be correct. I don't mind if you think that people are wan*ers for THEIR opinion - but you do not really come across as funny or clever by some of your responses.
I've always said " insult me - but not in a personal manner -don't take my insults to heart, but come back at me in in a clever way " - AND that's not just calling me a c*nt.

So then, how would a universal constant - energy - be affected by a physical death? And more importantly, how would consciousness be affected by:

    (1) the limitations of a nervous reactive ganglion?
    (2) A human brain

Clue - I didn't say that I was talking about human death.

All well and good, but I haven't got the foggiest notion what you're on about. I think PISKIE's story is the work of a very imaginative and unusual mind, not some bizarre spiritual crap. I will reserve the right to judge people as I see fit thank you very much.

    A) Why are you anthropomorphising energy?
    B) How is consciousness affected by the human brain? Well, have someone hit you over the head with a cricket bat until you pass out, and then explain how it is the work of anything other than the human brain.
    C) It's irrelevant whether you're talking about the death of a human, a budgerigar or a single-celled organism.

I really think you ought to open a Physics textbook and read about what energy is. The term is not synonymous with a 'soul'.
