Do we really want Ledley to stay another year as a player? He's past it now, unfortunately. Give him a coaching role. There's no point having him on the books and dragging him out everytime he thinks he's fit enough to play; it's unsettling for the defence and it's not reliable backup. I'd be happy with a back 4 of Caulker, Vertonghen, Dawson, Kaboul + a youngster / older defender, who'd be happy to play a bit part. I know Ledley would be content to be backup, all things considering, but like I said, he's just not reliable to stay fit should he have to be called upon in emergency.
defoe is like marmite amongst the fans, but he scores goals... there's no getting away from it. and he scores some decent goals, usually out of nothing. I can see him being an AVB type of player, and it working out for him. We still need Ade+ 1 other though. maybe even 2, depending on what competitions we go for.
He only says he wants to keep JD, didn't say as no.1 striker, if its as impact sub thats fine by me, or if AVB can convince him to spearhead the EL campaign thats fine too. Unfortunately JD works best with a partner...who has to be very understanding!
We can't trust Ledley to last a couple of games without the injury so it's time he left. Only the gossip column Spurf I think.
Mornin Spurf http://www.google.co.uk/#hl=en&gs_n....,cf.osb&fp=1deb3a27a4d9b1ab&biw=1280&bih=696 ...not great sources, a few but its gathering speed this story. ....ps, yeah you have missed it!
Back page of the Mirror exact same story i'd love a job where I copy somebody elses speculation and make money off it.
Its all speculation really, we'll see what AVB has to say about it all at his first press conference.
If the Fryers deal gets completed and he's up to the task, then I think we'd be sorted at the back once the Vertonghen deal goes through. Walker, Kaboul, Vertonghen and Assou-Ekotto, with back-up and competition from Naughton, Dawson, Caulker and Fryers. Livermore may have to be used as emergency cover, if we get desperate, but that looks alright overall, on paper at least.
We can also play Naughton at LB and Adam Smith at RB if things get desperate...which they inevitably will at some point.
Anyone heard anything about Bassong? Was linked to Reading and Monaco in June, I'd be perfectly happy for him to stay if he is willing to have another go under AVB, very good squad player to have and judging by recent seasons we have always needed a 5th centre-back (presuming King and Gallas leave/retire).
I hope Bassong moves on - his movement as a CB just isn't up there for me. Plus his loan spell at Wolves went terribly - he should've gone there and marshalled it as an experienced CB and did pretty much the opposite.
Assuming we move on Gallas and move King upstairs, that would mean our options at centre back are... Kaboul Vertonghen Dawson Caulker Bassong If Bassong is happy to play low priority games and wait his chance, I don't have a problem with him staying for another season - but it will probably only be for one more season, if we bring in one or two prospects like Uvini.
Reading what you're all posting I get the feeling that we're going to get a completely new look Spurs.
Right I suppose notso but I don't think I'm ready for huge changes. I liked the look of Vorm in goal last season,I think we should make a bid.
