I forgot about Nigeria. ****. Yes I agree with you. Certainly for us our entire strategy around November-February every year was based around ACON. It's not fair we have to condition our players just for that tournament especially around the time of year when injuries are more common and squads are more depleted than in September/April
Another reason to shift the tournament to either May or September is the fact the current system favours nations who have winter leagues (such as Russia), as they have no problem with their players being absent for December-February because they don't play games in those months.
The Russians have moved over to a July til May season, Croydon. Your point still stands for other leagues that haven't though, obviously.
I thought their season was March-November? Or, as there isn't a European Championships/World Cup mid-season to work around, did they change it to appease UEFA/FIFA/TV schedulers/people complaining that not enough football fans are dying of hypothermia these days (delete as appropriate)?
Yeah, they switched it. Last season went on forever, as a result. March 2011 til May 2012. Still only 44 games, which isn't that much really.
To be fair the amount of abuse African players get in Russia anyway the last thing they need is an actual excuse for that kind of vitriol
Really ****ty quality clip of the goals from Togo's win, with a ridiculous/brilliant dance celebration by Adebayor: < What that smiley was actually made for!
