Forgot about Muntari playing for those lot! Immediate dislike I just think there might be a few young players who could catch the eye in this competition and Mr Cortese seems to like players from different continents. He's setting a path for global domination to corner all the football markets around the world
I know it's mad. Dreadful footballer by all accounts though, just fancied himself as a player and had the means to make it happen
"Libyan football was arranged to favor Saadi. One law forbade announcing the name of any football player with the exception of Saadi. Only numbers of other players were announced. Referees favored Saadi's club and security forces were used to silence protests." I wonder how he manufactured the move to Italy. He only played 10 minutes for Udinese, one sub appearance for Perugia before failing a drugs test, and joined Sampdoria but never played.
The Gaddafi family had a bit of a financial interest in Italian football, particularly Juventus. Also, no Libyan referee could be appointed to the big Tripoli derby between Ahly and Al-Ittihad for fear of local reprisals, so the FA used to send over a team to officiate the game.
There was an article in a recent FourFourTwo about football in Libya. Apparently the Gaddafi's used to own shares in Juventus so Saadi wanted to sign for them, but they were having none of it. He got pointed in the direction of Udinese's mental owner (Luciano Gaucci: the guy who sacked a South Korean player for having the cheek to score a winning goal against Italy in the 2002 World Cup) and the rest is history. Can't imagine how or why Perugia and Sampdoria signed him though - must have been something dodgy going on
Have to have an interest before I will watch any match, so can't see myself watching this tournament. Hardly watch the PL now, but perhaps I might next year. I wouldn't mind saints buying a gem from this football zone, but we don't want more than one because of the timing of this tournament.
Signing players based on how well they've played for their country in an international tournement is a bad idea. We've seen it go wrong so many times, I think managers are wise to it now.
I guess I must be sad Fran cause if I am not out on the piss I will quite happily even sit in and watch Alfreton v Cambridge Utd!
I love watching all kind of football so I'll be tuning in. Not sure about any potential Saints targets, will have to watch and see.
Yes granted the last one wasn't up to scratch however previous one have been very good and as I said before I lead a extremely sad life with football when not out with the lads. I will be watching this thinking of myself as a saints scout! Lol.
Used to be like this, my son was always moaning about the amount of football I watched, but now I'm virtually Saints only apart from England games (all age groups) and occasional European games involving English clubs.
