Gills to win 1-0 with either Donnelly, McCammon or JET to score - I really don't mind -- perhaps even Tommy Trublu.
Gillingham Dons 1 v 2 New Gillingham (Cody, Nash, Eaves) hopefully the curse of the ex-player is limited to Cody or we could be in big trouble.
I'm glad you didn't mention the trouble with the curse of our current players !........... apologies to Patchy for wumming this thread (( psst - it's not a wind-up ))
Well I appear to be following a theme this season with my predictions and giving you a bit of Gillingham FC history in the process, well this time I'm not going to discuss the obvious of Mad-Dog and when we played AFC Wimbledon, but I'm going to take you all the way back to 1984. I travelled up to Plough Lane to stand on the very open standing only terraces that season, ironically you may remember me mentioning last week us beating Oxford United 0-1 at the Manor Ground their only home defeat that season, well this was the same season, Oxford came top and Wimbledon came second. So why do I remember it, well if memory serves me right it was the last game of the season and the only thing left to be done was the customary pitch invasion by the Womble fans to celebrate their promotion, but not until of course the Gills had beaten them 1-3. This period saw the Dons continued rise from non league to league one (Premiership) within nine years and the then infamous crazy gang. But I want to take you back even further than that, anyone remember Dickie Guy? The famous goalkeeper that took on the might of the then great Leeds United in 1975 and saving a Peter Lorimer penalty! To try and put it in perspective for younger fans it would be the equivalent of Ebbsfleet taking on Chelsea or Man United today, although without all the top league finances. Anyway moving on...grumpygit get your diary out and name me the three gills goalscorers on that day I've mentioned, damned if I can remember. So finally to my prediction, expect a high scoring game, head to head indicates it and AFC will defo be up for it, technically they are no better than us but... AFC 5-0 Gills (Barcham/Fuller/Cody hat-tick) Then hopefully Scally will wake up and smell the coffee.
brb, the last game of the 1983/4 season was Scunthorpe at home, the Dons were the last away game. Bruce, Cascarino, Sitton.
I'd love to carry on my predictions of pointless optimism, but as this is actually a competition I suppose I'd better predict with my head instead of my heart. Wimbledon 3 - 1 Gillingham (Hessenthaler)
