Alan shearer was the worst, he was making **** up that he had no clue nor line of sight to like how dropping gerrard "for the big games" was the reason behind it... then quoted real madrid away... and neglected the cheslea game which was bigger the next day. Alan shearer is the same guy who turned utd down twice, one for cash at blackburn where he was awesome and then for newcastle where he won NOTHING. alan shearer has no idea about what goes on in a guys mind who's a legend at a top club or formerly top club. Gerrard would want to be remembers for england as a top player and an important one... the world cup this summer must've been an awful blow. This season after last season must be an awful blow to the ego too. Gerrard has a legacy at anfield that really goes from 1998 to 2011.. and tag on the last season 2013/14, his indian summer. If he'd won the title and walk last summer he'd be the greatest legend since roy of the rovers etc etc... at this point his legs have gone... he knows it... so frankly if he wins a cup (league cup looks bloody hard due to 2 legged semi v Chelsea) everyone will prob forget the rest. Next year though it'll be even worse. its sad to see but my signature says it all. .................... The other reality is all these pundits mouthing off about frank lampard. Frank lampard has with respect started a whole 3 games in the prem, making 12 sub appearances and played 362 mins this season... he's knocked in 5 goals and made one assist. by contrast... gerrard has played 24 games for lfc and 3 sub appearances totalling 27 games! he's scored 9 goals and had one assist for 1569 minutes of football in the premier league alone so far. lets be real here. lampard is willing to accept a bit part and the pundits are falling all over themselves to lick his hole for his usual late entry into the box and goals. Gerrard by contrast has played constantly, not been good most of the time cos he can't get about. won't accept such a role and wants to run off the the mls... so frank is a worldie as a result and not that gerrard has done one for his ego and legacy he's a total worldie who lfc are mad to tell he can't play so much! Get real pundits.
My ratings: Migs: 5 One awesome save that was a result of him not commanding his six-yard box doesn't alter the fact that he's now seen by even League two teams as our weakest link. Manky: 6 Dunno how he played on after that first minute attempted ankle-break on him that the Beeb tried to waffle away as a 'typical cup tie' challenge. ****ing shocking. Otherwise okay-ish, but looked a tad scared when they thundered up on-masse for set pieces. Can: 5 has looked calm and reassured in previous games, but here, especially after the first twenty five minutes, looked dithering and slow. never seemed at the piece. Sakho: 8 relished the physical side and, one misplaced pass aside, looked the most solid of our cb's. Wonderful 60-yard crossfield ball to Manky in first half was forgotten by the commentator who jumped on his one misplaced pass in the second half and said he was 'awkward'. ****. Skrtel: 7 Was bullied to **** by Giroud a few weeks ago, so I thought he'd get marmalised last night. Far from it; in fact he won most balls in the first twenty five minutes around the 35 yard distance, but, like the rest of the defence, struggled more as Wimbledon attacked the box. Marko: 6 Impressed that he didn't flinch from the physical side at all. Frequently just got shoved off the ball - but credit to him: he got back up and kept trying. Poor finisher, but his attitude is 300% better than six months ago. Lucas: 7 Was fantastic in the first twenty minutes and really, really got stuck in. Struggled more in the latter stages of the first half, but re-imposed himself in the second. Hendo: 7 Everywhere and became more important in the second half, especially as Wimbledon tired. Excellent in those later breaks, but final ball sometimes lacks quality. Gerrard: 8 Obvious class, but fond himself dragged further back and back in the latter part of the first half and the beginning of the second. Deserved better finishing from those around him in the latter stages when the game could have been wrapped up. Coutinho: 7 like Markovic, struggled with the physicality of it all, but he just never gave up. Fantastic in the second half, but, also like markovic, missed the odd sitter. Lambert: 4 Dire. Like coutinho and markovic he missed chances: unlike them, he was never in the face of Wimbledon's players. Subs: Toure : unmarked - too little time. Balotelli : 5 Did more than lambert in ten minutes than he had in the whole game. Brendan: 6 Job done and the team fought hard for him - especially the little guys. I like that. Team: 6 Not as good as against Bournemouth, and they'll so have to up their game against Bolton, but pleased that the didn't completely crumble against a physically hard team in an FA cup tie in a cold January night away from home. Nothing to get carried awaywith, but something the likes of Manky, Marko and Ford can look back on and gain confidence about their inner resolve when they're next up against it.
