I was right to be worried after the pictures from the tunnel before the kick-off - the ref was laughing and joking with their captain, but not a word said to Deeney. Absolute disgrace of a decision, he should be put down into div 2 and ref the dirty ones.
    Seems someone has moved eastward!

Arrrgghh!!! The SSN report of the match doesn't mention that the red card was incorrectly given. How can one of the most important points of the game just be overlooked?

Well at least Eddie Howe was honest enough to say the ref was wrong.

“For me, was Callum ever going to catch that ball?

“I’m not sure how high the tackle was or why the referee produced the red card but I think I would be disappointed with the timing and whether Callum would have got to it.”

Jokanovic was somewhat restraint in his post-match press conference and when asked about the red card said: “It is better for me not to have an opinion. If you really wanted me to answer you it would cost me a lot of money and my contract isn’t that big.

“I can’t really make any comment about the situation but it was wrong and strange.

I am expecting an appeal. I would expect it to be upheld.

If one was to clutch at straws you could say that the attitude and spirit were great last night. We could have got battered but we didn't. Need to get over this very quickly and take their justified anger out on Blacjburn next week. The away following should take a bow too - thought they were excellent.

Shame on me for not mentioning the noise from the Yellow Army from first to last.
I'm not really one for conspiracy theories but when I see the way we have decisions like yesterday's debacle work against us more often than not it does make you wonder. Is this not the third time this season this has happened? Ekstrand at Norwich plus one other? Then last season v AFCB? Or does the mind play tricks?

I don't agree with what Staines'orn says but am pleased to have his views here. Do we really want this as a forum for old pals who have to agree on everything? If I go down to the pub with a few mates I know the one or two who will always be the pessimists and see the glass as half empty. We have driven away a few people on here who disagreed with the majority. Let Staines have his say - he does so politely and is entitled to his views - we can all present the other side. He does represent what I consider to be the worst side of the Watford fanbase. Some people think we can win every game - even when we have a poor referee - or are playing against the league leaders on their own turf - or both. Bournemouth are a very good team with an excellent manager and we would have had to be at our best with a full ten men to give them a real game. Some of us go back to the days when we were at best a third tier side and are pleased and grateful to see us competing well at this level and although disappointed we try to wear our rose tinted spectacles because we love our club. We of course know that we are not perfect though and that Jokavich has not proved to be an overnight miracle worker but please don't tell me that under the Pozzos we have not thrived - we were near bankrupt, had a player embargo and were favourites for relegation before they arrived. We now have a stable club, a four sided ground, some brilliant players, some memories of excellent matches and have coped with a manager resigning, a mix up on an interim manager anda manager who left through sickness - yet are still in the top 6.

A challenge to you Staines - post on here when you see good things happening not just when things go wrong. Let us know why you support and love our club - if you do. Your only positive comment in all your 3 years of posting was on the second half of the Blackpool game - and even then you managed to get some negativity in.

My little brother went last night, as his lad is indigs in Bournemouth. His last game was 25 years ago and he and my girlfriend spent most of the game discussing the merits of the then Stanley Rous Stand, they both were civil engineers. Anyway this is his report.

The score didn't reflect the man down, or the run of play. Watford looked by far the more professional team but Bournemouth dominated through sheer enthusiasm.
I think the quick sending off was as a result of the overlooked booking a few seconds before, but it was a fun match. It's a TINY stadium, possibly 8000. Don't know what they'll do if they go up, as is looking likely.

Was there even time enough to get a foul in before Angella was dismissed?

After the match last night I was spitting blood - this morning having seen the BBC glorying in our defeat I'm not only spitting blood but every damn thing else as well. I see Jocki is saying we will appeal and when we do and when we win the appeal how exactly is that going to make up for this bloody awful ref. Will he be stopped reffing again - no - all that will happen is he will be told he was wrong and to get on with the next match. There needs to be repercussions for the ref if appeals are to warrant anything. After all it isn't just us this match affected but the four other teams above us as well. They must be really fed up with this stupid 'official' too. Its not as if the 'sending off' was a hard to make decision - the tackle was in the open as was the last man - what a useless piece of dirt! Also as someone else has said Bournemouth weren't even that good and had we had 11 men on the pitch for the match I am convinced we would have won. I am also a little worried about Jokanovic's decision to leave two strikers on the pitch - was this a little naive? especially against the team at the top - would we have fared better to have closed down the game - at least that would have meant the Bournemouth fans wouldn't have had a spectacle to watch and we would more likely to have got a point. And don't get me started on the penalty decision ....

I think this has all been discussed quite a few times over the years - and I'll restate my opinion the football should adopt the Aussie Rules idea whereby there are no sendings off. Miscreants are put on report and have to answer later to a panel who decide on an appropriate punishment - which can be quite lengthy suspensions - or deemed innocent. It does mean that matches don't become mismatches and aren't spoiled as a spectacle for the fans.

Actually thought we did quite well considering against a strong side who have a lot of attacking quality.

Such a shame the red card ruined the game (bit like at Norwich)

Surely if that's a red then for example Pudli has to be sent off...

Did think it was a penalty though - Cathcart just got caught out with the striker nipping in front of him.

When their defender cleared Ighalo's header on goal with his arm, most definitely yes...

It is just the timing of incidents that makes all the difference.
A professional foul late in a game and the player misses one match.
Early in a game will probably cost a team the match as well.
The rule was brought in to improve the game but is not fair.
A sin bin rule or the player ordered to be subbed by another player would be an idea.

Feckin' 'ell, that lot makes gruesome reading this morning. I was not in touch with any of this last night, but reading it through makes me feel very angry indeed. We know a ref can make a mistake, but really?? That big and that early on? Consensus seems to be it might have been a yellow, but many refs would issue a stern, card next time sort of warning that early in the game if it was in the middle of the pitch. And with cover? Effectively the middle of the pitch. Hope he is having a good look at himself in the mirror this morning. I'll wait till I see it, but I know I'll just get angry all over again.

Anyway thank you all for gritting your teeth and watching/ listening, especially the travelling 'Orns.

I am trying to pick out the silver linings in this. Obviously the sending off ruined the game as a spectacle, but even 11 v 11, Bournemouth are a good team and we may have lost anyway. If we had lost in a fair fight, that could have put our heads down and made us think automatic promotion isn't possible. As it is, they can say they played away, with 10 men, against the top team in the division and only lost 2-0 (one of which was a penalty). They will think they should have got a result. They will be angry, motivated, and believe they can compete with any team.

A bunch of angry players and angry noisy fans, hopefully we smash Blackburn and take them out of play-off contention.
