The sinister side of me says just to tell your son to block his number. The cars not in his name. It might not be your way, but it could save your son a hefty fine and his girlfriend from claiming on her insurance.
If it was me I'd do that. Told my son to wait and see what he does next but not too give him any details.
Yep. The cyclist might be alright and you can sort it amicably that everybody is happy with. If the bloke mentions anything about any strains or he's not feeling himself, just **** him off and block his number.
He's mentioned his right side hurts but it's probably just bruising. That's what makes me think stop all contact and let him go to the police if he wants to make a claim.
He might have wiped out a man with some principles who merely puts it down to experience. He could have easily noted, memorised or took a pic of the cars plate though mate.
So if my lad just stopped responding I don't think he's breaking any laws and if the guy then wants to take it further he'd have to contact the police to get CCTV evidence. That's my thoughts.
Good point, the only worry is him mentioning an injury. If he hasdn't I would leave it to my son to pay him a reasonable amount for repairs but now that he's mentioned that it raises concerns and I wouldn't pay anything as he could then still claim.
Hmmm just thought, might get done for failing to report an accident. Is there a timescale on insurance reporting, if so they might invalidate a claim if they don't report it and have to pay out themselves if the cyclist becomes a shyster.
Nooooo. He can’t pay him anything as if he does he’s admitting liability by definition. Just tell him to ignore the calls and hope the bloke doesn’t take it further.
Why don't you just offer to pay for the wheel and send an apology ? The law will find in the cyclists favour if it goes that far, but tbh do any of you really want that ? Your son should have checked before he opened the door, we all make mistakes. And it's something he's learned from and will check every time he opens a car door from now on. But I think it's a bit out of order to try and brush it under the carpet. Just my opinion.
oh dear....you might want to read this Luv... https://www.confused.com/on-the-road/driving-law/when-should-you-report-a-car-accident
If it wasn't for him mentioning the injury I think that would have been the case but doing that has set alarm bells ringing.
