quick question gents and gentesses.
me and the wife and and a few friends are going to the Vikings-steelers match next September. we're looking for hotel suggestions. all the ones near wembley are looking for crazy money. we looked at a premier inn near tower bridge which was alright. my wife isn't going to the game but the rest of us are. is that too far from the ground and from Oxford st etc?

Depends if you actually want to stay in London. Could go out on the train line to Gerrards cross or beaconsfield. Good access to wembley and you'd be into marylebone in about 30mins on same line. Easy journey

Thats what Id do, try to find a place where you can take just one tube to each place. It will be cheaper and less carrying all of the shopping your misses has done while youre at the game.
 
Either as suggested above, or go the other way. Paddington for example, within easy reach of Wembley and Oxford street is quite literally up the road.
 
exactly the info I was looking for. my mate was looking at a premier inn near tower bridge. i think from there we jump on the jubilee line straight to wembley. what about that?

If you want premier inn there is one at Lisson Grove next to marylebone station. Easier access to Oxford street and British rail straight to wembley.

London Bridge would take you through to both Bond Street [Oxford Street] and Wembley Park, so would be a good choice.

15 stops though hoops. Marylebone to Oxford circus is 2 stops or can walk bond street in about 15. Wembley stadium is 10mins on British rail. Both much quicker.

Agree it's not the quickest, which is why I suggested Paddington. Bakerloo/Met/Circle line to Baker Street then straight through to Wembley Park. Paddington to Oxford Circus on the Bakerloo for the shops.

Well first of all why are you wasting your time and money for one of the most boring things to watch LIVE in all of sports?
Seriously, I've been to a couple of games, but mate, unless you are sitting down by the sidelines behind one of the teams next to the cheerleaders, you would be falling asleep in the first quarter. Unlike the singing and chanting in real football, the crowd at the NFL games sit there glum all match stuffing their faces with crap food, and to top it off, they need the use of the cheerleaders, drum band sounds, the music from the speakers and the giant LCD to prompt the fans to cheer when the time comes!

It's a made-for-TV sport, that NFL. NOT for live viewing at the stadium. And you have to be there for 4 hours!!!!!

as opposed to going to loftus rd and sitting in a seat that a kid would struggle to fit in and then watch a load of overpaid primadonnas not give a ****? what was your point again?
 
sorry for sounding off sooper.
main reason is I'm a Vikings fan and my mate is a huge steelers fan. he's from Pittsburgh. so what better way to meet up again then go to the game in wembley. he's getting the tickets hopefully and I'm looking at places to stay.
 
and if we're playing at home on the sat ( regardless of the division we're in! ) then I can bring him to see a proper game of football.. did I really just say that?

I've followed the Bears since the mid 80s, they were at Wembley last year, you'll love it...
 
Inky, where we were last weekend, ie Hanger Lane is very handy for Wembley Stadium. You can see the arch of the stadium from the hotel we were in. There isn't a direct tube line but according to Google maps, the 83 bus takes 21 minutes max. It is about 3 miles. Driving or taxi takes 8 minutes.

Westfield is 3 stops on the tube down the Central Line for the women and Oxford Street is a further 8 stops away.

as a Wembley-born-and bred person....would not recommend any road based transport for getting into Wembley on a match day....quicker to walk.
And I wouldn't want to walk it unless I had to....just a bit too far.

Best idea...anywhere on the Chiltern line (BR)...straight to Wembley Stadium...straight to Marylebone (and then a couple of stops to Oxford Circus...or Harrow on the Hill
 
finglas, I asked the receptionist in the hotel we stayed in about room rates and he looked at me funny before telling me " I shouldn't really tell you this but all the hotels in the area have agreed to price increases that weekend" we paid £90 for the double room last sat. they're putting that up to £235 per room per per night and £265 for the sunday night!! no thanks.
