I'd take rafa, harry, strachan and maybe hoddle. Not instead of Adkins but if adkins was fired i'd be fine with one of those 3 (4) replacing him.
No... stability is important and kneejerk decisions are what got us relegated from the Premier League in 2005. Saying that, the amount of individual errors in defence must stop NOW, whether that requires a defensive coach to be appointed, then i'm all for it.
I am surprised at how many people, not just on here, are bringing up Harry's name (a failure at this club), but yet not even mentioning Strachan (a success at this club). Even more so considering how defensively solid we were under Strachan, and that clearly is our issue right now.
Alex Ferguson had a dodgy start at United, I bet they're glad they gave him time. Adkins should get until xmas, then we'll see.
Nah can't agree with this...........If Cortese feels there is any likely hood of getting rid of NA. He either goes before the end of November or he leaves well alone until after the end of the season. Have to say I believe our confidence has been eroded am not sure of what is the best solution. I am not sure anymore that our Nigel has it at this level I think if I were making the decisions now I would leave it until mid to late November. We cannot go on though taking defeat after defeat like this away from home.......Not at home come to that........Oh Dear decisions, decisions...............
It's been about a 3rd of posters wanting adkins out since I started this thread, if we apply that to all saints supporters, that is the entire Kingsland or Itchen stand opposed to Adkins. This is of course a completely useless statement, just thought I'd share it.
Funny how I said this before the game and now people are speaking of sacking him , also funny how I will never get an apology either . I will say for the last time its not about the results its about how we play and what we play with . The worrying thing is we have not played like relegation fodder all season but we have still lost 6/8 games , and is the worrying thing , our defence is not going to get any better as they are not those sort of players as they simply are not premiership quality (the blame lies in not purchasing quality players) .
So you're angry about not getting an apology for saying that Adkins should go before the match today (you weren't the only one who thought that get off your high horse). Yet you've stated several times in this thread that you ticked the "no he should stay option". I'm not sure I follow. I'm not blocking you though I enjoy giggling at your posts.
You are not blocking me because it would be boring without the panto villian and also you could not show your sandals of to anyone , titter , hee hee .
So, it's not about the results but the way we play. You then say that we have played well (my interpretation of not playing like relegation fodder) and bemoan the results???? Massive contradiction or maybe just confusing. What do you mean?
I agree, but where does the blame lie in not getting those players we needed in. Let's face it, we're never likely to find out. I don't feel comfortable with calling for Adkin's head if unbeknownst to us he has been pounding down Cortese's office door all summer asking him where our defensive reinforcements are. I guess it comes down to this : You can't polish a turd, BUT you can roll it in glitter. Is Adkins the right man to roll our defence in glitter? Are our current tactics exposing a fragile defence more than it needs to be? If we protect that defence, are we going to stop scoring goals?
Haha, that is a very apt analogy and sounds like a brilliant arts and craft activity. Why was I doomed in my childhood to finger-painting and collages made of autumn leaves when there were fantastic ideas like this around?
Adkins should stay for the next 5 games. If there is no change in fortunes then... Adios!! He has achieved great things in recent times but his lack of defensive transfers may ultimately cost him & us. Pre Season he was given a budget, assessed the squad and cut the dead wood. He then spent money on what he would consider reinforcements. Aside of attacking signings, he then looked at our defensive options and was either satisfied or begged NC for better. If it was the first option then his time may be up soon. However if he can do what he is paid for and coach these guys into a solid unit then great and i wish him luck............but i cant see it. Either way roll on January.
If we brought Buttner then there wouldn't be as much of a problem. If Buttner were to get injured then we could play Fox but in reality, when Fox gets injured there's no back up so we have to play a first choice CB at LB and bring in a back up CB to start. The goalie changes don't help either. We need two players for every position and a few additional players too.
Missing out on Buttner I hugely regretted at the time and still do. People just dismissed him as soon as it became clear that we were not getting him, and moved on acting like it was not a big miss at all. It obviously wasn't the smoothest of transfers, and obviously no-one was in the boardrooms for the discussions and know exactly what happened, but from all indications, after all the initial 'third party' nonsense was cleared up, Buttner and Vitesse were completely happy for the deal to resume and go through, but we just walked away. There may have been deeper issues, but from the evidence on show it seems like Cortese just washed his hands of the whole thing purely because he felt messed about, which certainly seems to match with his character and reputation. It might have been OK if we went on to bring someone else in, but we didn't and it has cost us, and we really missed out on a quality player which some people don't understand, and I think the fact that he then went to United doesn't necessarily prove that but enforces it. Regardless, we can live without him, but would have been a very big player for us I think and an absolute bargain considering some of the money we've spent elsewhere.
