I agree . How manay times have we seen managers get sacked to quickly ? I believe NC will give NA lots of time , STABILITY is the key . Get a new manager , he will probably want new players , so it rolls over AGAIN . I may be wrong , but hope I am not .
Reading getting stuffed 3-1 at home to spurs at mo,so that's 1 point from 3, will reading fans be calling for Brian's head? No is the answer.
Why the **** do people keep going on about this ? It seems clear to me that we ( SFC ) spotted him and had nearly got him , but a 3rd party ( MANU )became aware of him (thanks to OUR scouts ), his Dad got involved and they offered him MASSIVE wages , not sure what they are but would imagine they are LOTS and LOTS more than we were prepared to pay .......
Saints appointed Pardew because we were desperate for a manager and got rid because he wasn't working out. Saints appointed Adkins because NC did his research, interviewed several candidates and thought "this is the man I want to work with". For Cortese's own personal pride as well as the good of the club, we'll give him plenty of time. Cortese is ambitious, but he's not stupid and he will have realised that our opening fixtures would be tough. Redknapp would be the easy alternative. He'd have all of his own ideas, he'd overhaul everything and make working with him so impossible that we'd sack him. It would be more destructive than constructive. It would be the same with all the other big name managers too. Adkins is our best manager since Strachan and will probably surpass him when he's had a bit more time. We'd be bonkers to get rid without a very good reason and losing games that we expected to loxse anyway isn't a good reason.
A few plonkers on their forums probably are. As much as people don't like to believe it, the fans of other teams are pretty much the same as us. Reading's defence is worse than our and you can be darn sure they're complaining about it.
Agree up to a point but if you are building for the future you need a solid base. Can't afford to keep changing the boss!
I like Adkins but I think he's a little out of his depth. I believe we have struggled to attract the type of player a higher profile manager could. Ramirez is a definite Cortese signing. Adkins has shown a lot of tactical naivety in every game so far from substitutions, players playing out of position (Rodriguez) and I also believe he's slightly overhyped our expectations by stating that we can challenge for Europe etc. That has left quite a few saints fans with unrealistic expectations. At times it seems to me that Adkins is just doing what he's told by Cortese. Having said all that, he has got us back to back promotions and he needs time to learn the ways of the Premier League. Every single game he should learn something new about our team and about the different ways the opposition adapt and play to there strengths. If he is given time he has the right attributes to succeed and drive us forward. The biggest thing that worries me is that we don't seem to have dealt with our obvious weaknesses - our defensive frailties. We have shown we can compete against the top sides but every single game we are conceding totally avoidable goals. It's all well and good saying we will out score the opposition but you need a solid foundation to build on first. Just look at Arsenal, they must have brought 10 centre backs over the last 3/4 years. I believe Adkins is under huge pressure right now to deliver despite the fact the start to the season us expected. Cortese will not be happy spending £29m and have 0 points. Fact. The is not an anti-Adkins post by any means, just an alternate opinion. The question would be, who could do a better job? If after ten games we are still bottom of the table. I would put a whole lot of money on Adkins being shown the Door. Unfortunately business is a ruthless game.
Think you've hit the nail on the head there. Let's see if Nigel has learnt after a few more games if not I agree NC might act. Problem then is with who. Cortese will only axe Nigel if he thinks he can get better!
I'll say it again, it's a learning curve for everyone at the club. Give them time, for crying out loud.
Absolutely. Four games in and lost to three of the top four teams in the country. He should have beaten at least two of them - SACK HIM!
Every great manager showed signs of naivety when they first broke into the big time. All the better to get it out of the way in games we're never going to win anyway. We have a fine manager on our hands and we need to keep him. Nigel Adkins is building a reputation too, but the benefits of having a big name are dwarfed by the disruption it would cause to the fantastic work that Adkins has done and is doing.
If we look at the League Table, we are not miles adrift at the moment. Several teams haven't a win yet. Cortese has spent a lot of money but mainly up front. I doubt very much that he was told by Nigel that he didn't need defenders. Unless we get free agents in, this is the team we have until January. We will start getting points soon, especially when our new signings bed in.
People saying Adkins is out of his depth are unbelievable. He's given the 2 best teams in the country a very, very close games. We should have beaten Wigan, unfortunately our players were wasteful and Wigan's were not. Admittedly against Arsenal we were humiliated, however who expected us to go to the Emirates against one of the best teams in the country and win? Look at where we were 2 years ago and then reconsider getting all suicidal about losing 6-1. If we win our next game we'll probably be out of the relegation zone, having played all of the top 3 from last season. Chill out guys.
There you are folks ...nail hit firmly on the head again from our Fran....... He did try to get defenders in I E Buttner...... We now know why that deal did not go through don't we? He did get Clyne and Yoshida. So how the heck anyone can say he lacks ambition has to be surely mistaken. Clyne looks ok to me... reserve judgement on Yoshida as I have only hear say as to his ability, but he dos sound ok to me! Fran is right again we have to hang on to the next window for additions so we have a few months then we will get some more in. Of that I have no doubt.......
Hopefully Nigel has learned a lot from our baptism of fire and in particular the consequences of small defensive laps or mistakes. Most of the goals we have conceed have come from mistakes along the back line or from midfield that could have been avoided. The harsh reality is that had we not had these little lapses and made those little mistakes we could well be sat on 7 points right now. Hanson tore us apart defensively on MOTD and it all seemed pretty obvious and basic. We can't bring in any new players to improve the team but we could bring in someone else to work directly with the defence. Steve Bould has had a massive impact on Arsenal, so is there someone out there we can bring in to iron out these defensive lapses/mistakes? and who do you think it could be? Killer? Claus?
Franny, he'd add a bit of metal to the back line! (A bit of work on the training ground & things will look better in 7 days, I'm sure)
