I could be wrong but I think the adjusted takes into account the weight they are carrying and weight for age factor.
Cheers guys, think I understand now. I was getting confused between the adj RPR on race day and the recorded RPR from the previous race results, as it both says RPR when you look on line, but the race card is the adj RPR then. The adj RPR is mostly always much higher than the recorded RPR from previous results. I guess this is just to do with the way they calculate the adjustments, by adding pounds to the horses?
I believe the adjusted RPR is calculated by taking the master RPR rating and adjusting as follows:
For every pound being carried under 10 stone add 1 to the master rating. If the horse was carrying over 10 stone (does that happen these days?), deduct 1 for every pound over 10 stone. If it was a weight for age race then for 4yos and upwards use the 10 stone but for younger horses replace the 10 stone by the appropriate weight in the WFA tables. I'm not an RPR fan so I don't know if the RPR rating shown in the Racing Post is the master or adjusted (I can't access the ratings as they seem to be available only to members). However the adjustment principle is the same as for Timeform ratings and ORs. For a handicap, if you adjust the displayed OR all the horses end up with the same rating (ie they are handicapped to dead heat based on the Official Ratings
