Atsu spent a season at Bournemouth before coming here. He only ever started a couple of cup games. Was about 5th in line for a spot on the wing. Rafa clearly saw more in him than Eddie Howe and wasted 6 million on him after his loan deal here. Best bit of business Chelsea did with us thanks to not actually buying Kennedy.
We're not the only ones, Chelsea fund their massive development squad by loaning them out for the odd million or two, and selling on their deadwood to any mugs willing to pay. Southampton finances have pretty much been dependent upon them selling their homegrown to the likes of Liverpool and the Arsenal. Is the nature of the beast these days. Were they good enough, we would sell either of the Longstaffs to the big teams. Correct me if that 70million transfer has already happened Captain.

Atsu was more of an impact player in the Champ season, but he still had a decent season then and certainly wasn't bad, and got plenty of important goals and assists.
