Adebayor was willing to take a pay cut to stay at Real, although his wages would've still been £100k p/w or more.

I really don't think we could. He's been brilliant so far for us this season, it's not all about goals. He's great at keeping the ball at the right end of the pitch and we've been lacking that for ages now. i couldn't think of anyone out there available other than him that could do a better job. We've yet to see this Leandro fella but even he is drifting out of our league.

What impresses me about Adebayor is his unselfishness. I get the feeling that any time another player has a better chance for a goal, Ade will pass it to him. With the team scoring much better with him on it, and him contributing with assists and setting up assists, I'm not concerned he isn't scoring enough--especially as three goals in seven games is scoring enough, or very nearly enough. I don't know if Spurs can work something out, but I'd definitely want them to try. The biggest thing they've been missing is a striker of Ade's caliber.

I`d love a new year strike force of Adebayor, Defoe and Leandro with VDV as midfield / 2nd striker.

If Adebayor doesnt happen permanently, we would have 6 months for Leandro to settle in (similar scenario as Sandro), assuming he will be good enough for the PL.

That's very true. It hasn't always been the case with him a previous clubs though. He's had adversity since then and it looks like we've got a more mature Adebayor.

An important non football advantage is that Ade has said he enjoys life in London, and he's willing to take a pay cut, alledgedly atm I agree, but he must be aware of the Russians and PSG, so why make these noises? He is clearly enjoying his football here, always smiling, and we're doing well. If this continues till Jan he'll sign imo. And, Modric will stay...wonder how he feels about the greener grass of Chavland now! :D

  7. My honest impression of Adebayor, having heard him in several interviews, is that he's a player who needs to feel that he's respected, and I think at Spurs, that's exactly how he feels. Probably, Harry has had a lot to do with that, and I'm not sure that players like Ade, Moddy and Bale will stay with us if Harry gets offered the England job (which he will take like a shot). Provided we can keep Harry, I'm sure Ade will continue to play well for us, because he will be happy and an integral part of a highly motivated team.

If we can pick him up for £10 million and get his to accept wages at around £70k per week (no doubt bolstered by a hefty signing-on fee), then we'd be stupid not to close the deal.

Liverpool got Carroll for £35 million, and what kind of wages is he on? I'd take Ade for £20 million, as he's easily twice as good as Carroll, so we'd still be doing better business than 'Pool.

The reality for Adebayor is, that nobody is going to offer him the sort of money that City currently pay (unless that crazy Anzhi outfit come in for him) Therefore, he has two choices; see his contract out at City, which means that his main interest is money, not football; Or take a pay cut and move on to a club where he's wanted.
I think, and hope, that he will choose the latter. For me £10mm is already a greatly reduced price, and is a virtual No - brainer. It means we should be able to pay him a bit more, too.

Not true, Anzhi, Malaga, PSG, and a few others could.
There's no way Levy is going to pay him 100k per week.
£10m transfer is a good deal, but wages are a big issue.

Also if I were Harry, I'd wait until the honeymoon period is over and see whether Adebayor is still producing the goods.
Because when his form isn't good, that's when he is trouble and he starts blaming everyone else.

He's angled for a move with the last three clubs he's been with, because he hasn't got his own way,
and if Beyonce ever comes knocking, Spurs will have the same problem that we did with him.

Yes, you're right, Piskie, I was forgetting about Malaga & PSG. However, neither one has shown any interest in him, so far. Unless he's completely thick, he must realise that he's fast running out of options. His reputation goes before him. TBH, if Harry can't handle him, then virtually nobody can.

Thanks for the advice, but with you lot, he was playing for a club in decline and got the hump because he's a winner, at City he was bought by one manager and didn't fit into the new ones plan, and at Madrid he knew he was temporary cover for the injured Higuain, end of....I think you're just bitter about him.

If he wanted to move to Real or AC Milan at the end of the season, then surely we'd be better off buying him for £10m in January and cashing in during the summer, Piskie?
It seems like a win-win situation, for me.

Man Utd, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Barcelona - well, they all have players on weekly salaries above Ade's current £175k p/w...

I totally understand your take, like you say, we'll see.

Ade was in your team, from going through a season unbeaten...thats right, a whole season unbeaten, to where you are now, thats decline, the fact he saw the scale of it early is neither here nor there. Every player thats left you has been pissed off at not winning anything, simple as that. Harsh but true my friend!

I think you'll find the width off that mark is narrower than you think...its so negligible, I'm spot on.<ok>

    This 'decline' has happened because
    ----------------------------------

Sorry Samir, not being rude but I haven't read your post, I stopped after that bit, I'm not interested in why, I said there was one, you disagreed, and now you admit there is one...that'll do!...toodle pip till next time!...better luck an all!

and that's precisely the same reason he'll ditch Spurs .

Agree with PNP though, if an option comes up to buy him,
it would be great business to rinse Beyonce if she eventually gives in to him.

The 'winner' that could not be bothered to put in any effort in a CL semi-final when playing for Arsenal against Man Utd. Also as Ade will tell you it was us that got rid of him. As soon as City put in the bid it was goodbye to Ade. If he was a winner as you say, where the **** was he when we needed him in his final season at Arsenal? Oh and do not say he did not have any service. He had players like Van Persie, Fabregas and Nasri in the same team. Truth is he messed up big time in the summer of 2008 where he was playing around and messing the fans about with comments about Milan,Barca, getting the same wages as Henry and bloody Beyonce. Then he signed a new fat contract and kisses the badge in a pre-season game. Talk about cringeworthy moments, well that is up there for me. He lost the fans then and there. As soon as that went he also went. I will mantain the view that when he is on it he is up there with the best. The guy has everything you need from a forward. Maybe he has grown up now and will sustain this form but lets wait and see.

Enough wild assumptions from that crystal ball Zelda! Lets stick to what 'has' happened. :D

I'm afraid even with the help of your wingmens excuses too, it doesn't change the decline I stated, or the fact you've won fuk all for ages, or the fact thats players have left because of it.

The difference there, is you used to win lots, its why players signed for you when you were, those that did on that basis, were bound to be frustrated by the subsequent drought.

Strange that none of you have been about much, seem to have resurfaced now you think you have something to crow about...lets not get carried away, its a good time to play Chelsea...ask Genk!

Like I said before, Piskie, unless the guy is completely stupid, he must know that his options are running very short. If he doesn't start behaving himself soon, nobody is going to touch him!

    'Enough wild assumptions....'

    I stopped reading after that....

You'd like to think so. I wouldn't call Adebayor stupid, but his ego does colour his judgement.
I'm not sure that loyalty is a term that he engages with, unless it's to himself of course.
I think Spurs should buy him if the option comes up, especially at £10m - that's a bargain. (wages aside)
But don't be surprised to see Adebayor angling for a move to a 'bigger' club, if one shows an interest.
