If we can't get someone good in for a reasonable price which seems unlikely then our options up front for additions are limited, probably not the 'right sort' but proven in the prem and knows where the back of the net is, as a loan to the end of the season IMO wouldn't be a bad signing!
Beggars can't be choosers. We are seen as a toxic club with poor management and certain for relegation. Players will come for the money (and maybe game time) unless there are incredibly altruistic players who want to come and play for the badge and up for the fight. Unlikely I fear. If he comes, as soon as he puts the shirt on, we cheer him at full volume until it is too late.

He certainly isn't one of my favourites but if it's a loan til the end of the season he could be exactly what we need. He's a dick but he is a genuine proven goalscorer in this division.

There is not many available strikers, and to have a proven Prem goalscorer would surely benefit us. Not the type of player we would want ideally but in the position we are in I'd take a gamble on him. Wasn't it Sherwood and Les Ferdinand who got him playing ot of his skin last season ?
Personally I think we need a couple of defenders.

I'd take him. As I said the last time this came up on a thread last week, Had-a-buyer gives you 4-6 months of effort then gets lazy. We only need 4-6 months. He was like a new player for the run-in last season when Sherwood put faith in him, but now conventional wisdom has him as a **** again because Polly-Pochettino won't pick him.

This maybe the best we can hope for with the window closing shortly. Will chase balls down and won't complain about being up top on his own ( we love you Charlie but get over it mate) if the need arises.

Sort of player who needs 2/3 chances to convert one though, still with the steady supply of crosses that hoillet, Phillips and SWP will provide that should not be a problem! Seriously though an inform wide man would really be an asset for us.

I think I agree with Ubes.
Problem is, we could get in Ronaldo, but we'd still go down with the midfield and defence we have and the tactics that old Dino employs.

Many will disagree , but I think the problem isn't so much the defence as the midfield. I think the meanest defence in the league would have shipped many more goals with the midfield we have in front of them. We don't have anybody there that can keep the ball, more often than not use it intelligently, or pop up with more than their fair share of goals. Instead there's a succession of hopeful punts and errant passes upfield, after which the ball quickly comes back at the feet of opposition that can move it swiftly and with purpose. Of course, we could do with more mobility in defence, but I think the focus on it is disproportionate compared to the midfield, and specifically quality attacking midfielders.

Exactly this.

All I can think of at this moment are all those interviews with TF that include the words "lessons learnt."

How is this a realistic proposition for a club like ours - a player that is out of favour (read as out of form) but collects a huge wad of cash? If it's a loan then we'll be paying most, if not all his wages. If it's a actual signing then it'll cost countless millions.

Every other team in the bottom half manages to battle for survival without desperately trying to drag in players on 100K+ a week. They manage this shrewdly and to their benefit and they'll all not have half the debt we do.

I'd be surprised if we financially benefit that much from being in the Premiership this season despite the increased TV payouts and the reason would be that the lessons haven't been learnt.

And why do we seem to play the part of Daniel Levy's annual bonus - we just seem to contrive ways of making him richer at our expense?

Why can't we just do things properly? If we'd learnt our lessons we would.

I actually quite rate Adebayor but perhaps, just sometimes, we need to say no.

The defence just isn't good enough but your point about the midfield is true as well, we clearly miss Ale Faurlin who was adept at retaining possession and using rather than losing the ball. Sadly, Sandro has proven to be a £10 million sick-note...

Good post, one of the worst offenders for misplaced passes is Barton, but it's endemic in midfield. You just wonder what's happening in training

Watching some of the lower league sides in the Cup; they were able to retain possession at times and keep the ball quite well, against Premier League teams. I just can't fathom why we can't!!?

I think there's often a lack of movement, I wonder whether they practice pass and move in training, it wouldn't appear so from what you see on match day. Also I regularly see players passing at the wrong angle so the ball arrives square or behind a player meaning there's no attacking momentum, add that to a lack of pace and you can see why we look so pedestrian...

We have put ourselves into a position where gambling is the only option and it's very sad What needs to be remembered is if we escape then fans should see it for what it is
There is no masterplans in place just bullshit
That's the problem, we talk the talk until the crucial moment and then throw money at the problem.

No other club seems to reek of the same desperation and that, to me, is worse than the on-field struggles.

Short term mentality at it's most obvious worst.

I see Palace have signed Papa Souare the left-back from Lille we were linked with in previous windows and all we're looking at is Adebollox...

All remember that Harold doesn't even do transfers so that leaves Garth and Phil

Players were attracted by the club plans what has changed? the plans?

The man is a liar to us he has purchased players and then made us eat the fact that he thinks they are not good enough

He is building up to a big finale with The latest idea that one ex Tottenham player will save us
I am loving it

He was sacked by Spurs and look at them today what a great new side rebuilt in what 5 months

We can't build a basic footballing structure and we have Hoodle FFS
Who does know how to manage
