NSS - no issue with that sentiment whatsoever, but this thread is based solely on the questionable premise that Ade has turned us down long term on the basis of financial terms.
Why give credence to a tag line from a disreputable broadcaster or journal - surely best to wait for May when he actually does leave for a more lucrative destination!!! :laugh:

Yes, like you, I hope we can keep him. I think he's been an important part of our general improvement this season. However, this is not the first time the wages issue has been mooted. Al I would say is, that if he wants to be arseaholic about an offer of 110k p.w. he can **** off to Russia or China.
 
For me after a great start, he has not been consistent enough, nor scored enough goals to dismantle our wage structure for. If he'd banged in 25 goals and got us out of trouble on a few occassions I'd be all over it, but I think our stance makes sense. To be fair, saha offers nearly as much for considerably less. Shame. Ade seems a good lad and appears to be enjoying his football again.

might only be 11 goals chirpy, but like GH10 said... there's 11 assists to back that up. someone said that david silva has 1 more. no one in their right mind would question silva's ability and contribution to a game. So perhaps Ade's just goes unnoticed somehow, as we're all focussed on how many goals he's scoring rather than what else he offers. - do you think that the goals + the assists is enough for us to really push to keep him?

i had no idea it was as many assists as that. that's worth it's weight in gold, IMO.
 
Yep Roo, Ade is a top player, and underrated by many Spurs fans.

He offers considerably more than Defoe or Saha, which is he's first pick amongst the strikers.

It's highly unlikely we'll pick up a 20 goal a season in the Prem man.

Who was the last person to score 20 Prem goals in a season for us? My guess is it hasn't happened, that's how unlikely it is.

It's also unlikely that we'll replace Ade with someone as good as him.
 
Like G10 has said , the team plays better with him in it. Far better than the other strikers for how we play.
Touch can be awful and finishing has been dire at times but he has improved the team.
I agree that we are unlikely to sign a top striker with our limited financial restrains so I would rather
keep him .
For me Berb was a outstanding player wasted at Man Utd and far better player than Ade.

We would have to pay for Ade, it isn't a matter of just keeping him.
 
Berbatov was a more skilful player than Adebayor, but he didn't work as hard, most of the time.
There were some exceptions, like when we beat Bolton 4-1 in 2007.
Keane was wrongly dismissed at 3-0 after 36 minutes for a handball on the line, after the ball hit his chest.
They scored the penalty and suddenly it looked like the game might swing back in their favour.
Fortunately for us Berbatov seemed to take exception to the decision and turned his frustration into drive to pay them back.
He dominated their defence on his own, humiliating Ivan Campo repeatedly, before Lennon added a 4th.

If the rumours about Adebayor are true, then perhaps he should take a look at the Bulgarian's fall from grace at Man Utd?

When Ade was out against Stoke, I noticed Spurs created just about nothing through the middle. So I kept my eye on Ade through the Bolton game. He runs hard and gets into the middle of the box, or just outside of it, in time. Then he uses his size and skill to control the ball, usually with his back to the goal, and finds runners or open players for his passes. Partly this works because almost inevitably two players fly over to him the moment he gets the ball.

What he does well is work hard, control the ball with his back to the goal, draw defenders, see open players and pass. What he doesn't do so well is shoot and score. But I think he might be a better fit for Spurs now than a better goal scorer who isn't as good a hold up man.
 
PNP,when Berbatov arrived he was an unknown quantity and for me a breath of fresh air but Adebayor was more well known especially his habit of scoring in the first games and then tapering off. I'd choose Berb over Ade any day.

Plus, to sign Llorente (or any other Liga BBVA player) we would need to pay out more wages than he would get in Spain to make it match up, due to the tax rules.

I think Spain has closed the tax benefit rules, which were for foreign players not nationals anyway, and we've dropped our top tax rate down to 45p which is the same or nearly the same as Spain now.
 
Ade is a class player. He holds the ball up well, and he can dribble, too. He's so much more than a mere target man, like Crouch was; and he's far more a team player than Defoe is.

If he's asking for too much, I suppose Levy will see if he can get a better deal in the market. Much will also depend upon how well Saha shapes up, a player I have been impressed with, so far.

Spain is after every tax Euro it can get at the moment. Taxes are set to rise sharply, all round.

He's a superb player, but it's an unlikely deal.
Bilbao tend to increase the prices of their players anyway, because of their whole Basque thing.

Muniain looks like an excellent prospect, too.
They'll do well to hold onto him.

It's certainly unlikely, but we need to learm from it, and purchase other players that we have the same level of interest in. we could have had llorente 18 months ago. - perhaps Eden Hazard is the new example of this?

PNP, there was another attacking lad they had who really impressed me in bilbao. wasn't munuain (although he's b;oody useful).

relatively short bloke, very tanned, short spikey hair and cause problems all game with clever passing. - Might have been Martinez, but that could just beanother player that springs to mind who had a good game.
