I didn't think BWP had too bad a game and came close to scoring at the start of the 2nd half, he's always expected to score but thought the midfield could've done a bit better. Too much heading in this game and not enough passing, Green came the closest to scoring as well. CP needs to find a tactic to deal with these teams as they are very bullish and we fail to impose our passing game leading to all kinds of errors and then the defensive frailities late on. I also thought the sub was too late and Wagstaff should've come on 10 mins earlier and possibly Cort. No Hughes on the bench and I was impressed with him against Preston.
For all those saying about BWP being tapped up, you can tell it was just bad luck, he was trying hard, perhaps trying too hard and seemed extremely annoyed every time he missed a chance. He's probably just lacking confidence a bit, as he hasn't scored for a few games. Quite right about 'too many headers'. Morrison kept hoofing the ball into the air and a few others were equally as guilty of it. Considering how short BWP is compared to most defenders, as well as Kermit wearing bandages all over his head, I can't quite see the benefit of adopting a hoofball style approach.
charlton pat from what i saw of the game he did not look interested something has turned his head i reckon over the last few days i do hope no one is trying to make a bid but ive come to terms now if he wants out sell him at the first bid that comes in we need players who are 100 per cent effort into the shirt not sulk if a club has come in i seriously think its like this with bwp ,i did here brighton and ipswich want him so i reckon brighton have put a bit in and unsettled the player something has happened this week why hes played so poorly if this is the case then i say sell him and get in leicester forward scullip i think his name is sorry if spelt it wrong and play him and kermit up front lets take the bid money prob over 1.5m i reckon and run that would buy us 2 or 3 players
but if he plays poorly next match u know something has happened behind the scenes this is how clubs work they unsettle a player then make their move i wouldnt be suprised if bwp hands in a transfer request if someone has come in
The effort from BWP was there - just didn't get the luck. I think Kermo for the 3rd (or 4th) in a row game has been MOM... just ahead of Wiggins. Green had his moments too, but also gave away a few silly fouls. He has improved his disciplinary record from last season, but he does make me a tad nervous.
Russell saved us a point today and a point last week with his header off the line, but otherwise seemed a bit anonymous. He and Ephraim were barely mentioned in the radio commentary. Was that really the case?
Yes I would agree, just because BWP didn't score doesn't mean to say he looked uninterested. He's not scored in games we've won and no one has come on here and said that then. Also he was often pulled back by their big defenders which they kept getting away with. It reminded me of one of those disappointing days from last season when a late goal was let in and it was only a matter of time.
Other than his goal and a good tackle shortly after Russell hardly touched the ball, Ephraim didn't effect the game at all. My opinion is that we should return ALL loan players in January if possible because Russell has been poor, Ephraim even worse and if Cort is not good enough to start then why is he here? I'm sure we wouldn't miss any of these players and we could involve contracted Charlton players in future! Why didn't Pritchard come on for Russell in the last 15?? Russell was gone how didn't Chris see that?
I read somewhere he is on the verge of signing one and these things take time. Powell is right in his after match report, the team needs to cope better with the Oldham type scenario and I didn't realise how tight results were between the 2 teams, this was the 4the draw in 5 contests. Sometimes people get carried away with the run of results and expect to beat the likes of Oldham when they are just as tough and Yeovil will make it difficult as well.
Charlton were absolutely robbed today!! Oldham were complete ****! Spent the whole game time wasting!! 2 linesmen was shocking aswell!! Best player on the pitch had to be the Oldham supporter who invaded the pitch wen they scored, he celebrated next to the oldham players laying down on the pitch doing his own celebration lol Green was shocking in the 1st half 3 times team mates tried to play a 1-2 with him and he didnt make no effort what so ever! There was no width today what so ever, Morrison was a rock as usual but he disribution was terrible, a number of times Hamer rolled it out to him and he hoofed it everytime! Bwp neeeds a goal bigtime, when Kermo went off for them 5mins he was shocking couldnt hold the ball and his first touch was non existance, did improve in the second half but when will he read a Kermo header on?? The amount of times Kermo wins the ball bwp never reads it very frustrating at times. Wiggins played brilliant today a few times i was screaming for him to put it out of play in a tricky situation but his a cool customer played his way out of trouble fantasticly! If Dickov says they deserved that point he is talking absolute ****!! We should of had it dead and burried by 60mins! Ehpiam was by far the worst player on the pitch didnt offer nothing out wide and was very weak going into challenges, i was calling for waggy to come on on the hour mark Powell made that switch to late, we definately need to get a striker in january a IMPACT player to come on, someone with pace to burn and scores goals.. Euell and Hayes arent them type of players! We could of extended our lead at the top by 7 points... Its definately a missed opportunity but still its 1point closer to that title....... UP THE ADDICKS!!!
I was more disappointed with the midfield really as they struggled to get a grip on the game and passing was limited, not enough use of the wings. Where is Hughes, would like to see him back but this is the sort of game that needed Johnnie Jackson.
Yes that was the case. I can't see the case for playing these 2 short-term loanees ahead of Pritchard and Evina or even Hughes. I didn't like it when Parky did it and I don't like it now either. For one thing I don't think it's good for morale when dubious short-term loanees are parachuted in ahead of players who have done everything right in fighting for a start, and for another thing these two are not particularly good. Pritchard and Evina also have far more enthusiasm and appetite for the game and that in itself is pretty important in my book.
I think that's very disrespectful to Oldham, they had a plan and stuck to it and it worked. At times their midfield played an organised passing game, the timewasting you allude to has happened before with Tranmere and some others but as Powell said the players have to cope with it and not be riled by it, to stay at the top of L 1 is hard work and these types of teams will do all they can to get anything out of the game. BWP came closed to scoring at the start of the 2nd half and did all the work, did you miss that chance? To me he did all he could do for his height and size but then he wasn't given that many chances and didn't always get much support.
Lets not get too concerned though - on another day we would have won 3-1. We had opportunities to score, but you could sense a frustration kick in shortly before the goal where a few seemed to lose a bit of focus. I think that what CP means when he says we have to learn how to play the Oldham types. Still 5 points clear - we just need to be that bit more professional against Yeovil next week. If this is what Sheff Weds and 'Udders fans are calling our ''dip'', then bring it on. Still picking up points.
My markings for today, The hammer (7) couldn't do much about the goal but other than that OK Solly (5) what was he doing when Oldham scored? running round like a blue arsed not marking anyone?? Taylor (6) didn't impose himself Morrison (6) lost too many headers and long balls were poor especially the punts into the air Wiggins (8) good game, cool and collected Green (6) some good runs but no final product Hollands (7) put in a stint but lacks a killer pass Russell (4) gave him a point for the goal, other than that poor Ephraim (3) didn't get a goal and was poor Kermit (8) MoM chased everything, won a lot of headers but lacked the service for any goalscoring chances BWP (6) first touch was poor first half and only marginally better in second, how often would he have missed that 'one on one' when he almost took it round the keeper Chris Powell (5) substitution(s) were made far too late, why wait till they equalised?? We needed Pritchard (the ever ready bunny) in midfield when we were one up.
Pat i saw the chances and a bwp on fire would have burried them, he looked out of sorts today bigtime! The time wasting was a joke and the crowd showed there frustration at it... We didnt play great but we didnt deserve that draw we did enough to win that! I'll stick by what i said about Oldham they was very poor, hoof ball alot... Defence couldnt cope with Kermo chasing them down they must of gifted us 2/3 corners from sliced clearances! Defo not a time to worry though its 1 extra point and we move on to the next! Sooner Jackson is back the better! Your ratings are spot on Allhell, there was more poor players out there then good today.. and agree with Kermo, he didnt stop running and won everything!
I think he would've meant to keep a passing game going and keep possession in midfield rather than the constant heading of which I haven't seen so much since last season.
