Wasn't there but another good result. Looking forward to Gillingham next weekend. Would be happy with a point on Tuesday.
Took our foot off the gas at 2-0, almost cost us, really enjoyable game of football, Southend will do well this year
Decent second half against by far the best team we have faced so far this season. Southend looked well coached & drilled, and Kightly and Cox are both good players at this level. A few of ours had off days. Fosu needs to learn about composure on the ball and be taught how to lift his head up when he has possession - some of his greedy antics today were ridiculous. Forster-Caskey is a real nothing player IMO, Reeves or Aribo should be getting a start alongside Kashi soon. As soon as we upped the pace in the second half and started to pass and move, we looked decent again. Top 6 almost certainly, top 2 possible depending on squad depletions.
Top performances from our senior players Solly, Pearce, Kashi, Holmes, Clarke and Magennis. And good to see Jacko having so much input from the touchline.
I doubt if the crowd was more than 10,000. I guessed the Valley was about a third full, which would be about 9,000. The East stand was particularly sparse.
The official attendance was given as 12,200. Safe to say it was nearer 9,000. That's the problem with the Apologists, there's just not enough of them.
I for one won't be talking us up, if 'us' means the current regime at CAFC. The Club and the Regime are one and the same to the apologists. In their view if you don't support Duchatelet, Meire and their Disneyland re-imagining of Charlton Athletic, then you are not a Charlton fan. I'll give our first team players and manager all the credit they are due for what they achieve. And I'll carry on hoping that Karl - sorry, Sir Karl Robinson gets us back into the Championship by the end of this season. Not only because I support the CAFC team (as distinct from the board and their executive minions) but because I believe promotion back to the Championship is the quickest way that Charlton Athletic will finally be free of RD and KM, and can become a real football Club once again.
Amos Solly Pearce Bauer Da Silva Kashi Reeves Marshall Holmes Clarke Magennis That is a Championship line up IMO. On paper it is certainly better than the side Millwall fielded at Wolves yesterday. If these players stay fit, I honestly cannot see us outside the top 2.
Can't say I agree with you Royston. Even if Charlton gain automatic promotion this season, if we do not overhaul the squad again and simply field that 11 in the Championship, we will probably be relegated. Granted there may be a 'honeymoon' period when momentum from this season and a sense of hopefulness will earn us a few results. Then reality will kick in. The decent Championship sides will beat us. First wins, then even single points, will become harder and harder for us to find. We will be back to sacking managers and ridiculous statements from KM before you know it.
Agree - I think only 5 of that side are championship material. Bauer - just. Da Silva Holmes Kashi Mag
Mine isn't. He played well enough for the most part yesterday, but he still fumbled a couple of times. Amos has not been put under sustained pressure yet by any opposition attack so far. And he has still conceded goals at the rate of more than one per game on average this season (7 in 6 games). This has been the case for the last three seasons with him. Eventually he may prove to be the weak link in our promotion campaign.
As I said - it was a genuine Q as I haven't seen the games. Just noticed he isn't being criticized much any longer.
Granted no team can play perfect football. Every team has weaknesses that astute opponents can exploit. Our weaknesses (and Amos is one in my opinion) are not the focus of attention right now because the feel-good factor is naturally high, and the four straight wins might lead an unwary observer to believe that Charlton are becoming invulnerable. From what I have seen and read however, I would say only one of those four wins was a comfortable one (Northampton). And this despite the modest quality of opposition we have faced so far. We have been playing some terrific attacking football. But tougher tests to come will reveal how serious our weaknesses are.
I agree with Royston. Amos, Solly, Da Silva, Pearce, Baeur, Reeves, Marshall, Clarke, Kashi, Holmes, Magennis are easily good enough to play in the Championship. But the squad is still lacking in quality. If one or two of our gun players like Magennis or Holmes is out for a spell we don't have the quality to replace them. I think when fit Marshall will come in for Fosu. If we can add another goalscorer in January it will strengthen us no end. I have no doubt that if we have good luck with injuries we will be there or thereabouts come the end of the season.
For what it's worth he's "absolutely buzzing" about it down here. It's a cliche, but it's important to have players who actually want to be here.
Amos has flapped at a couple and spilled a couple, but he has made some good saves. Including one with his feet yesterday. ALL goalkeepers make mistakes including England's finest Joe Hart. Charlton's defenders seem happy with him.
