The subtext for me was that he wants to play in the Champions League one day. To get anywhere near that, we need to gamble massively. There's no doubt Cortese was a very shrewd gambler, whilst Marcus Liebherr clearly had the nous to back a winner. The good news is that there is continuity between the previous set up and the current one, and Frau Liebherr has put winners in place at executive level. The problem is, of course, that gamblers lose more often than they win, as Spurs and Everton can testify. But people who never take a punt never win anything. You're at the table Katarina - time to play your hand, as craftily as possible.

Interesting analogy, but I don't think that KL does gamble. Is it not possible by shrewd purchases and organic growth to build towards CL over the next two or three seasons? That sounds more like her style.

The investment in the training facilities is massive and we have laid out a lot on players for a team of our size, so I think the Leihberrs (M and K) have been extremely supportive. She is showing a lot of interest (quite frankly, we can't get her out of the place) and wants to involve the fans more...not a lot to dislike really. Our income has increased greatly in the last few years, but there were losses in the previous seasons. I'm expecting a decent amount of money for MP to spend, but we are not Chelsea or Man City (and I don't want us to be). 'Slowly, slowly catchee monkey' is more our style.

maybe he's only fourth on goals but top for chances created because he is more of a team player than the 3 above him on goals scored?

Just read that again and I can scarcely believe I am saying this Echo piece seems a totally sensible article regarding the future and spells it out. If we can continue the progress forward then the players will stay. I don't think that means that they expect silly money to be spent this summer, but good strategic strengthening to be assured that the project is still on. Has anyone showed Katherina the DVD yet?

I wonder what she'll make of the upgraded stadium and other associated buildings..?

Dad was going to do this..? :)

Happy birthday Adam. As if he's 26 already. Yikes!

Was it five minutes ago, or is he technically still 25 for a few more hours..? :)

Incidentally, I'm listening to talksport on their listen again facility. Specifically, the 16.30 - 17.30 slots for Thursday. Blimey, Greg Dyke got chewed up by a very angry, Adrian Durham. Darren Gough made an extremely good point about managers as well. An unusually good listen. You can even cut out the adverts.

I was posting on not606 about it at the time. One of the best things I've ever heard on talkSPORT.

I know. It's what attracted my attention and why I'm listening still. Cheers DTLW.

Every person who is commenting is absolutely incandescent. The Football Combination [old reserve league, pre-premier league formation] has been talked about. A perfect solution in my opinion. Just heard the Stevenage manager and he covered a lot of talking points.
