The law is the law and he has been found guilty. The length of sentence is the more subjective part of this - I do agree that "celebrities" tend to get heavier sentences
he will no doubt appeal, and then, maybe a second time .... cant excuse what he has done in this modern day witchhunt climate we find ourselves in ... .... .... .... if only as much effort was relatively spent on important things .. I am not belittling the "wrong" but the normal non celeb chap down the road was "alledgedly caught" with an under age and he got a suspended 12 month's after a year of hassle before it came to court!
I've got a 16 year old step daughter and to be honest I still see her as niave to surroundings, so maybe I've got a blinkered view to it all . But at the end of the day he knew what he was doing and if he thought that he could get away with it then he's a bigger idiot. The law of legal age is there for a reason, he broke it knowing he was breaking it so **** him put him in prison for all I care tattoo it on his head.
This probably best illustrates what I mean: http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/schoolboy-groomed-teaching-assistant-we-6536549 I must keep emphasising that I in NO WAY condone Johnson's actions - he deserves a big slap for what he did - and as the father of 2 daughters I'd happily slap him myself, but where is the consistency? Minxy - I'd particularly be interested to hear your view from a lady's perspective.......
He will get what he deserves, I have read nothing in this case that gives any sort of excuse for his behaviour (by that I mean mistaken age identity or something like that) and I agree entirely with Minxy regarding the innocence of the young girl involved. However. when compared to this, I sometimes think there is something evil about the criminal justice system in this country! "Baby P killer Jason Owen has been quietly released from prison – even though he is still considered a danger to the public. Owen, 42, jailed for six years for the torture of 17-month-old Peter Connelly, was allowed out three months early."
This is EXACTLY the sort of thing I am talking about. Sorry, Johnson's actions; upsetting, distasteful and wrong though it was, it does NOT compare with the vile treatment of that little boy.
That was the first case that sprang to mind for me and I thought, I bet he got less! A quick google search and there you have it! I bet there are thousands of examples just like that..
"Five convicted killers released from jail have murdered again in the past four years, some just weeks after leaving custody, it was revealed today. Andrew Dawson, George Johnson, Ernest Wright, David Cook and Desmond Lee were only given 'whole life' sentences after committing murder for the second time. The families of their victims said today 'life should mean life'. Even some relatives of the killers believe that their family-member should never have been released the first time round" Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...life-jail-freed-kill-again.html#ixzz41qtxlVAT Follow us: @MailOnline on Twitter | DailyMail on Facebook
It is shocking to see over my secondary school period the age gaps between underage boys/ girls and the overage people they are going out with. Johnson's actions are bad but they could've been worse compared to other cases in the news. With regards to his sentence, I'd say that 18months to 3 years sound fair given that he has shown remorse. With regards to murder and other cases, only 5 years was given out to a drink driver who killed a pedestrian at a crossing, traveling an estimated 70 mph at over 2 times the drink drive limit. It won't be long before a speeding driver kills another person at the same place and what sentence they get.
I'm horrified & always have been that somehow a female who abuses young boys/girls is not treated in the same way as when a male is the perpetrator ... abuse is abuse whoever carries it out ... but often lenience over sentencing seems to be shown where a woman has a young child I also think where the perpetrator is a beautiful young woman ... some men would see the victim as a lucky lad ... which clouds their judgment about the offence.
The world has gone mad if you consider when I was a young lad down on the levels underage sex was rampant but that can never condone what has happened with this guy. These footballers believe they have an entitlement as a celebrity, and to hell with convention and decency, but the possible sentence is shocking by my standards. Looking around at the sex related charges resurfacing after many years against other so called stars makes me ask whether some of the allegations are solely money related and with today's electronic media watching your every move and traceable by the authorities why the hell would you put yourself in these compromising positions? A sad way for his career to end but mark my words this case will be just the tip of the iceberg and now watch for copycat allegations from all over the place. There is nothing about his case that is deserving of any sympathy from me but nonetheless it is indicative of how modern society is trying to deal with these kinds of issues and the need for justice to be seen to be done.
There is no doubt that the sexual abuse of children is a widespread and vile problem which is rightly attracting more police resource and attention. I do however see a clear difference between young children and this case where there must be some degree of mitigation. However the offence criteria are absolute and he has been found guilty by a jury. He must hope that the judge does not seek to make an example of him and makes a balanced decision i.e. make the punishment fit the crime. These sort of offences always divide opinion. I have mine based only on what I have read others have a different opinion.
Just the same as there will undoubtedly be SOME young ladies out there who will think 'you lucky thing - I would LOVE the chance to be a WAG and join Colleen on a shopping spree....'
I'd probably go a bit further than that -which is why it's probably good I am not in political power.
Johnson is being made a public example of because of his high profile status, simple as... Not condoning what he did at all however 10 years seems absolutely ridiculous bearing in mind that every time I visit my GP, I see big signs everywhere for clinics giving out free condoms to under age kids having sex. Appreciate this is to avoid unwanted pregnancies but in some cases, I bet that at least one of the parties is not underage...
he'll probably get 5 years and only 2-21/2 of those, but hes an adult and the legal age for sex is 16, he knew that, if it was my daughter i wring his frigging neck!
Her own mother told her not to stalk him so they both knew what was going to happen. Don't know what happened to cause the fall out but hell hath no fury........ He knew the law and got caught so no one to blame but himself. Randy men with all that testosterone and a 15 year girl with all those hormones racing away don't mix.. Long time ago but I am sure we can all remember "behind the bike shed"
