Of course what happens with other teams is relevant. Every teams fans should be treated the same. It is like a lot of people speeding but only some get fined when caught.
Then you deserved ejecting. Why should you be allowed to stand blocking the unfortunate person behinds view of the game?
There's a good article on the FSF site about it, but basically there's no law against you standing. The law says a club must provide seats, and the club must prevent 'persistent' standing, but 'persistent' is very much open to intepretation. At football they're a law unto themselves, but strictly speaking, there's nothing the Police can get involved with if it's just standing, but that doesn't stop them.
There really wasn't, a steward asked me to sit down three times, I ignored him and he came back with two coppers who said I either sat down or got ejected. I sat down until they'd gone and then stood up again, it's a pointless exercise, as long as everyone ignores them, there's no problem, it's only when people start sitting down that they carry on with everyone else.
And everybody around you was standing ? You shouldn't get thrown out for standing but the police are a law unto themselves of course , they do what they want as far as football fans are concerned
I think that's what some places argue. After consultation with fans, experts and legal people, Cardiff have an area for standing, but enforce other areas strictly.
Taking that further. We jump at goals, we sometimes lean on the chair, we go to the toilet when needed, we could even balance on one leg or hop. All breaks the "persistent standing" rule.
I think it all supports the argument for looking at the possibility of encouraging those that prefer to sit to go lower in the stands. Not that seating always means silence, but I think this would result in more noisy people near each other too, helping improve the atmosphere.
All very sensible . Some people want to stand and some people want to sit we just need a way to work it out . It really shouldn't be difficult
Can we just call them Singing Sections again? It wouldn't be hard for the club to allocate a block for each or singing section at the back and non singing as such at the front. That's not to say those sat down won't sing - I just mean it gives people an idea of the type of people they will be near in terms of sitting or standing.
At Manchester City last year we were right next to their fans. No problems at all. A bloke in front of me, sitting in the end seat, stood in the aisle. A steward asked him to go back to his seated area. Everyone was standing. He did it again and was escorted out. He didn't return. I thought they were quite right. He was blocking an exit but also he had ignored the steward twice and therefore deserved to go. If he'd just moved a foot to his left he would have been Ok. How much patience are they expected to show? Why is there a belief that people attending football grounds are impervious to the rules? I think this is a really good thread because it has sparked genuine discussion that hasn't deteriorated into verbal insults.
