Ffs, Harness is on!! I don't get the luongo substitution....surely you would take Morsy off, what with him being 1 booking away from a 2 game suspension!!
Tbh he would be a big miss against Bolton and Shrewsbury also, would rather he didn't get suspended at all
Of course; but by leaving him out there and not making an issue of it he’s taking some of the pressure off Morsy. If we are 2-0 up against Shrews then Morsy will be hauled off (if he starts at all).
Great performance tonight, some of the football was superb and we mixed it up when we needed to which was pleasing to see. That midfield duo of Luongo and Morsy I would say is a title winning combo, if we'd had that all season. They're so strong on the ball and intelligent and certainly wouldnt get bullied out of games. Additionally not only does Broadhead have quality but he adds such a better balance on the forward line particularly down that left hand side, it also leaves more room for Chaplin in the middle who looks like he's starting to form a good connection with Ladapo. Not sure why McKenna changed a winning team but it worked, and fair play to Jackson I thought he had a good game, I thought there's no way he's a winger but he looked a decent one today. Donacien doesn't have quite the same attacking threat as Clarke but he is decent going forward and exceptional defensively (better than Clarke). Only a couple of small criticisms we never seem to have anyone attack the front post when crosses come in not only would that offer an additional goal threat but it would also pull defenders out of position. Secondly I thought Harness was poor when he came on, I don't quite see why McKenna keeps playing him centrally his ball retention is awful in that position and from what I understand in his career he has mainly been used as a wide forward. As we get some of our midfielders back from injury I'd like to see McKenna use Humpreys more to come on in the no10 role plus Evans (in a deeper role) to see a game out in terms trying to keep the ball better...considering the amount of possession we have stifling the opposition by playing keep ball doesn't appear to be one of our strengths when we are leading in a game.
A thing that has impressed me in the last few games is how we’ve tried to get the ball forward a lot quicker and a bit more direct.Special mention tonight for Wolfenden,I thought he was superb in his reading of dangers and sweeping up at the back and was always calm on the ball.I agree that Morsey and Luongo look by far our best CM pairing they totally boss games.
Luongo has improved us overnight and we are not giving the opposition any opportunity to set themselves defensively now. Our build up was far too slow before. Look what happens! We are unplayable at the moment.
Whilst I agree we were far better at mixing it up tonight and more direct, it has surprised me that a number of the teams we've played recently haven't come to sit deep against us and stand off. All of the teams we've beaten quite handsomely recently have come to press us and we just pick them off because we've got good players and good patterns of play. It'll be interesting to see if teams keep trying to press us as McKenna highlighted whilst we do play it around at the back we actually haven't lost a goal to a mistake at the back from doing so this season.
