I'm pretty sure that when Pardew was in charge he was talking about a three year plan to get to the premiership. Pretty sure Cortese also mentioned it on moree than one occasion. Looks like we have quietly scaled down our ambitions since the great mans passing...
In order to realistically challenge for promotion, we need someone who will score 20 + goals a season. I can't honestly see Ricky Lambert or Barny doing that in the Championship, and while Connolly probably could if he stayed fit, that's a big if. So we need a striker. And Jaidi was a rock last season, but is he really goinfg to hold his own against the strongest Championship forwards? Probably not, so we need a Centre Back.
I think some of you are very optimistic, this season if we bought in no players id be happy with avoiding relagation as I would be if we do sign players. The championship is such a tight league and it can always be anyone's day. i still think we will sign 2 or 3 players before the season starts.
