I understand that all clubs are selling clubs because if a club higher up the pyramid wants a player then usually they get him, but our strategy of buying young players with potential, in order improve them and sale them for a profit, to then reinvest & do the same again makes it more acute , Brentford use a similar model , have been doing longer & I would argue are more successful at it. Sheffield United used a different route very successfully because they were able to have stability.
Fair enough, but being a London club Brentford probably have a much bigger choice of players than we do. This becomes especially acute when you consider there are active scouts from the likes of Aston Villa, WBA and Southampton working in Bristol and taking local talent on board.
We do seem to have got better recently, & hopefully the new training facility will improve our chances further .
It does have to be pointed out that most clubs in the championship at sometime have come down from the Premiership having the advantage of parachute payments..so with that in mind, we've done ok to be where we are.......
I agree with @Red Robin other teams shouldn't matter, Bournemouth fans must be really annoyed probably the best squad in their history with the most money spent by their manager and they are flirting with relegation, shouldn't they be in a Champions League spot?
he left BARNSLEY when they were up for Wembglee and in line for a promotion to championship .. HECKINGBOTHAM hung on to [ just about ] what had been built and claimed the honours LEE sacrificed these opportunities to take over at AG … MAYBE that first season may have seen Barnsley [ with LEE in charge ] mis table or better championship ….the CITY whoever would have been the manager ...who knows … heading back to league !?????? SL REALISED the error of his previous 3 or 4 years bought a new blackboard and some new chalk a put up the new plan … item 1) get a manger [ young with not much previous that we can mould how we envisage the future ] who will work with me and club and keep faith through thick and thin. 5 year contract .. item2) ……………………...
I think we are making progress year on year I'm not one for chopping and changing managers all the time LJ has made mistakes but there have been brilliant successes as well - let me give you an example - for me one of these was sussing out how to play against Sheffield United's 3 centre half's who frequently join midfield - something most of the EPL has not done yet!)
He sold Ayling to Leeds for £200k. https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport...ws/report-confirms-exact-transfer-fee-4242135
