Our U21s reached the quarter finals of the Premier League International Cup this afternoon with a comprehensive 4-0 win over Porto, with a first half brace from Coulthirst, while Walkes and Sonupe both scored in the second half Glover, Walker-Peters, Amos, Lesniak, Carter-Vickers, Veljkovic (c), Townsend, Winks, Coulthirst (Harrison 71), Walkes (Sonupe 77), Onomah (Miller 46) Substitutes (not used): Georgiou, McDermott (GK) Also worth noting, Townsend played the full 90, while Onomah came off at half time - which implies Onomah may feature either against Norwich or Watford, while Townsend's days are getting increasingly short.
Porto were poor opposition and once we went ahead, the result was never in doubt. Coulthirst looked hungry and up for it, took his goals well and looked more like the prospect we saw in him a couple of years ago. Andros Townsend is far too good for this level and ran the show, he was outstanding throughout.
Good news on some promising players. There was a rumour recently about Marcus Edwards signing up, too. Shame he's not included.
Good news: this evening's U21s match against Chelsea is on TV Bad news: ...on NBC Sports Network in the US Glover, Amos, Georgiou, Lesniak, Veljkovic (c), Carter-Vickers, Townsend, Winks, Coulthirst, Walkes, Miller Subs: Sonupe, Goddard, J Pritchard, Voss
Just seen the goals at half-time. Awful clearance to a Chelsea player from Glover for the opener, Coulthirst scored a great header for the equaliser and we conceded from a corner for the 2nd Chelsea goal(typical!). All goals in the space of 5 minutes too. Good open game from the 20 minutes I saw. Not impressed with Veljkovic but Miller and Winks look bright for us.
Lost 5-4 in the end. Dasilva scored a cracker with about 10 to go but Townsend scored a penalty and a well taken strike in the last 5 minutes of normal time to level. Injury time was chaos with both sides' midfields disappearing as everyone turned into either a defender or an attacker. Chelsea scored another goal from a set piece right at the end to win it. Thought Winks looked very good, he needs to be moved up from this level either on loan or with the first team. Carter-Vickers was very good in the tackle but needs to work on his marking so he doesn't keep having to resort to last ditch defending. Glover was very Gomes, some good saves mixed in with some risky decisions and poor kicking. I liked what I saw of Sonupe too, very similar to Oduwa and one to watch. Dasliva, Mitchell and Abraham looked good for Chelsea.
Apparently that Spurs team has scored more goals than any other but conceded the second most too...Classic Spurs!
Nooo, I thought you said he turned them down! They were saying on Sunday Supplement that the Glazers are cutting the youth team budgets too.
I saw somewhere today that our Twitter page reported yesterday that Cambridge had scored against us when Colchester scored. Even in a 4-1 win, we continue to do something Spursy.
After the debacle with Lennon's birthday last season, maybe we should start paying our social media coordinators?
News of McDermotts' recent promotion and new role is now out in public and was announced by Levy at a recent meeting with the Supporters Trust group.
