Highlights of the 3-3 draw with City, from their website: http://www.mcfc.co.uk/?play=1 Slightly longer clip from our site, but you have to be a member: http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/u21-man-city-away-highlights-170815/ Maghoma at fault badly for both City's first and last goals, though the commentary did mention that he was just back from injury. Nice finish from McEvoy for the opener and a decent header from the at-fault defender to nearly nick the game, though.
Mixed fortunes on the weekend, as the U18s traveled to Southampton's Staplewood facility and the U21s visited Sunderland's Eppleton ground. Our younger side started slowly on Saturday and conceded early, but came back to win comfortably. The more senior team made a similar start a day later, but failed to make any sort of comeback and couldn't make a breakthrough. U21 sides: Spurs: McGee, Walker-Peters, Carter-Vickers (Maghoma, 76), Veljkovic, Walkes (Georgiou, 46), Lesniak, Onomah, Winks, Sonupe (Goddard, 68), Harrison, Pritchard. Substitutes (not used): Voss (GK), Amos. Sunderland: Stryjek, J Robson, T Robson, Agnew, Roberge, Beadling, Mavrias (Greenwood 37), Gomez (E Robson, 79), Mandron, Gooch, Buckley (Smith, 64). Substitutes (not used): Talbot, Brady. Lynden Gooch got the only goal of the game in the first five minutes and that was enough for the win. It's a strong looking side, so it surprises me that they didn't really seem to trouble the Mackems. Veljkovic has apparently joined Sporting Gijon on loan since and they drew with Real Madrid, so he'll need to raise his game to get time on the pitch. Mavrias picked up a nasty looking injury from a hoarding, which is why he was withdrawn early. Hope he's ok. Match report, coach's opinion and view from the opposition: http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/u21s-sunderland-away-report-230815/ http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/u21s-sunderland-away-matt-230815/ http://www.safc.com/news/academy-news/2015/august/u21s-cruise-past-spurs (Their site seems a bit broken at the moment, though that might just be me) U18 sides: Spurs: Spurs U18s: McDermott, Hayford (Paul 73), Muscatt, Owens, Mukena, Brown, Edwards (Bennetts 53), Stylianides, Loft, Shashoua, Daly (Oteh 68). Substitute (not used): Whiteman (GK). Southampton: Jake Hallett, Trialist, Ben Rowthorn, Alfie Jones (Richard Bakary 69), Ben Cull, Joe Lea, Callum Slattery (Rugare Musendo 45+1), Stuart Wilkin (Carel Kayembe 53), Harley Willard, Tyreke Johnson, Olufela Olomola (c). Unused substitutes: Adam Parkes (GK), Siph Mdlalose. Despite having taken an early lead in this one, the Saints youth side couldn't hold onto it for long and were well behind by half-time. Stuart Wilkin scored the rebound from a saved shot to open the scoring after four minutes. Samuel Shashoua leveled things up less than ten minutes later with an assist from Zenon Stylianides. Ryan Loft grabbed his first just after the half hour to put us into the lead, then scored again in first half injury time to give the team a comfortable gap. They both scored in the opening fixture and Loft's supposed to be pretty highly rated, I believe. U18 highlights, courtesy of Southampton's official Youtube channel: Some very decent finishes. The size difference between the teams looks immense. Great tongue twister up front for them, though. Olufela Olomola should be good value for the Pleats and Mersons of this world!
That reminds me of one Indian team on Sensible World of Soccer where seven of the squad are named Singh, meaning that commentary for their games would end up sounding a lot like this...
Ismail Azzaoui has been grabbed up by Wolfsburg, who've signed him on a five-year deal. We snatched him from our Europa League group stage opponents Anderlecht, so I guess we're not really in a position to complain. Bit of a strange one, as he appeared to be progressing well and was getting regular game time ahead of his age level. Given the amount of youth players that have been pushed into the first team recently, you'd have thought that he'd have fancied his chances. Perhaps the German side offered him a more attractive package or he believes he'll get his chance there first? Time will tell if this is a good move, but I believe we'll be seeing more of him in the future, from what I've seen of him.
The U21 side lost their opening Premier League International Cup game to Everton, going down 4-1 at Goodison on Monday. It was a stark contrast to the meeting between the two sides in the U21 league game last month, where the scoreline was reversed. Everton U21s: Robles, Pennington, Connolly, Ledson (Walsh 76), Browning, Holgate, Williams (C), Grant (Yates 86), Byrne, McAleny, Henen (Evans 67). Substitutes (not used): Hewelt (GK), Charsley, Graham, Donohue. Spurs U21s: Glover, Walker-Peters, Lesniak (C), Maghoma, Georgiou, Amos (Stylianides 55), Goddard (Owens 67), Winks (Walkes 55), Sonupe, Onomah, Harrison. Substitute (not used): Voss (GK). Henen gave the hosts the lead from the spot after a quarter of an hour, after Amos tripped Connolly. Both sides created chances for the rest of the half, but a deflected shot from Byrne extended Everton's lead just before the break. That lead was further extended a couple of minutes into the second period, as McAleny grabbed a third from Henen's cross. Their scoring was complete only three minutes later, as Byrne put away a fourth after being found by Ledson. Maghoma's header from a Winks corner almost from the kick-off made things a little more respectable, but there was no way back. A poor start for Ugo Ehiogu's side in a fairly weird competition that seems vaguely Europa League-ish in it's set up. The other two teams in the group are Porto and Schalke, who are yet to play and face each other at Wycombe's ground on the 25th.
England U18s beat Holland 2-0 today in some tiny place over there called Capelle, which is near Waalwijk, apparently. Kazaiah Sterling was involved in both goals, winning the penalty for some Goon to score and putting away the second himself. He's the kid that scored the only goal in the FA Youth Cup semi-final first leg at WHL against Chelsea last season, having spent the day at school.
That youth cup game was 2-0 with Onomah scoring in the first half, I think. Anyway, looks like another promising player coming through our academy and one that's not a central midfielder, which is a plus since we've already got so many coming through!
I ****ing watched it! Great first leg, **** second leg. Spursy. Sterling looks a talent, but he's very young and lightweight. Nowhere near the first team, I wouldn't have thought. He'll probably be starting for us in Qarabag, though!
A weakened Spurs U18 side, missing a number of players due to international call-ups, lost badly to Fulham yesterday at the training ground. The visitors won 3-0 and missed a penalty, resulting in the first loss of the league season for the youngsters. Kieran McKenna reflects on the result: http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/u18-fulham-home-verdict-060915/?
Josh Onomah and Kyle Walker-Peters both played 90 minutes for England U19s as they drew 1-1 with Croatia in Zagreb. The friendly match finished 1-1, as our midfielder grabbed an equaliser in the second half. The hosts had taken the lead in the first half via a penalty. FA report: http://www.thefa.com/news/england/development/2015/sep/match-report-croatia-v-england-u19s-070915?
Our U18s are currently 2-0 up against Villa, with goals from Sterling in the fourth and twenty-eighth minute. Whiteman, Hayford, Muscatt, Owens, Paul, Dinzeyi, Edwards, Stylianides, Sterling, Shashoua, Bennetts Subs: Duncan, Daly, Loft, Oakley-Boothe, Austin
Not a bad display from our 2011-12 academy today, with Lee Angol and Soulemayne Coulibaly both scoring twice in Peterborough's 5-1 win over Oldham
