Liam Donnelly Liam has been called up to the Northern Ireland U21 squad for a game against England later thiis month. http://www.fulhamfc.com/news/2012/november/02/international-nod-for-donnelly Their U18s took a bit of a drubbing when they played an England side (including young Patrick Roberts) last month. and this will be another difficult one. Hopefully though, Liam will get a chance to show what he can do.
Corey Gameiro got the goal in Australia's 1-0 win over Qatar in the AFC U19 Championship. http://gulftoday.ae/portal/71fa648a-f797-42ea-93aa-c8d6c5916467.aspx
Good news. Cottager, Like yourself,I would love to spot a future little gem from our acadamy squad. Saw "JH" when he first came into the team,Beddy Jezzard (who I thought was the best c/f we ever had) and some years later George Cohen, Alan Mullery and Tony Macedo. "Thats given my age away".
Corey Gamero is one I'd tip, rosc. I've only ever seen him in a training match but have a hunch about him. Young Ronny Minkwitz is the other I'd put 5p on.
The U18s have been drawn against Middlesborough in the FA Youth Cup. The lads should be fairly confident; we've already beaten them 5-1 away from home and we're currently second in our league Group, Borough are bottom. http://www.fulhamfc.com/news/2012/november/06/u18s-draw-boro-in-fa-youth-cup
Corey Gameiro does it again. This time he got Australia's goal in their 1-1 draw against Syria. http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/news/1127623/Gameiro-nets-to-earn-Australia-draw
Corey has made it 3 goals in 3 games. This time he got Australia's goal in their 1-1 draw with Saudi Arabia, taking them through to the quarter finals. http://www.fulhamfc.com/news/2012/november/09/young-socceroos-progress
Manchester City 1 Fulham 4 (U18s) What a tremendous win away from home for the lads. The goals came from a hat trick by Cauley Woodrow and Maumer Tankovic. http://www.fulhamfc.com/news/2012/november/10/manchester-city-u18s-1-fulham-u18s-4 Good to see young Pat Roberts back after injury.
Liam has been selected to play for Northern Ireland in their U21 game against England on Tuesday. Although only 16, he's a permanent choice in our U18 team. Got to be a great prospect and well done him. http://www.whitesidecantjump.com/under-21s/ni-squad-to-face-england-fulham-and-liverpool-youngsters-drafted-in/
That boy Corey has gone one better, well three actually - he scored a hat trick as Australia beat Jordon 3-0. He's having some tournament. http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/news/1128353/Gameiro-treble-sinks-Jordan
Thanks for the info Cottager, yes Corry is certainly making his mark in this tournament. In looks build and stature, very much like Trotta, but unlike the aforementioned I hope his progress continues with age. The ones to watch in my opinion are ~ Islamovic, Williams, Donegan, Burn, Brister, Woodrw, Joronen. There are of course younger ones which I have failed to mention ,but will sill watch with interest their progress.
Thanks for all the updates, gents. It's much appreciated by those of us who don't get to see the youngsters.
Here are the video highlights of that terrific win. Even according to the Man city website report, it was as comfortable as it looks in this edited clip - great penalty by Cawley Woodrow as well, although maybe not as cool as Berba's at Arsenal. http://www.fulhamfc.com/news/2012/november/13/man-city-u18s-highlights
Fulham 1 Millwall 1 (U21 Friendly) With no league match this week the U21 team had a friendly against Millwall this afternoon (you knew it was a friendly, although U21 might be stretching a bit, when Maik Taylor turned up in goal for Millwall). Another cool penalty, this time by Alex Smith - he scored but had to re-take and repeated his first. The man Tavares was subbed after an hour. Here is a report by the Club - http://www.fulhamfc.com/news/2012/november/13/fulham-u21s
A draw is much more credible when you consider Millwall had 7 of their first team playing (obviously normal U21 rules didn't apply). Our only 'over age' outfielder was Philippe Senderos and that clearly was to give him game time (ahead of Sunday ??). Here is the brief report from Millwall FC - http://www.newsatden.co.uk/8597-seven-first-teamers-feature-in-friendly-draw-with-fulham.html
Corey's luck, or certainly his goal scoring ran out yesterday as he missed a penalty against Iraq and Australia lost the semi-final 2-0. Still 6 goals in the other four games (all of Australia's goals in fact) is not a bad return. http://www.theage.com.au/sport/soccer/young-socceroos-bundled-out-of-afc-championship-20121115-29dxj.html
Fulham 6 Middlesborough 0 (18s) A thimping win by the U18s with a hat trick from the 'Tank', two from Pat Roberts and the other from Lyle Della Verde. Man of the Match however was young Emerson Hyndman (five foot nothing of brilliance !). Here is a report from the Club - http://www.fulhamfc.com/news/2012/november/17/fulham-u18s-60-boro-u18s The youngsters must be brim full of confidence for their remaining two league fixtures (Liverpool away then leaders Chelsea at home) before the FA Youth Cup 3rd round tie against today's beaten opponents, Middlesborough.
Middlesborough 2 Fulham 0 (U21s) Another loss to a North East side I'm afraid The long trip up there saw the U21s go down to a hard working Borough side. The Fulham team was - Stockdale; Brister, Grimmer, Arthurworrey, Musa; Minkwitz, Pritchard; Islamovic, Altman, Banya; Woodrow. Subs : Bettinelli, Della Verde, Tankovic Borough scored with a penalty after 30 mins and got their second with a header 20 mins into the second half. Tankovic and Della Verde came on as subs for Banya and Islamovic but we still couldn't get into the game. Despite our not scoring, Cauley Woodrow had a good game. Disappointing, but the Borough U21s are very strong team and we did well to hold them to 0-0 earlier this season in the League.
