The U18s will be looking to forward to continue their unbeaten run tomorrow, against a Liverpool side who may be missing some key players because of International games. Here is Steve Wigley's mini blog about the game - http://www.fulhamfc.com/news/2012/september/28/under-18s-face-reds It's another home game - Motspur Park ko 11am - open to Season Ticket holders (free) and Members (small charge).
Fulham 1 Liverpool 3 (18s) The younsters were well beaten in the end, losing their unbeaten record to an excellent L'pool side. In a reasonably even first half Emerson Hyndman scored the only goal with 20yd shot into the top corner. Oberschmidt made a couple of fine saves but Passley and Woodrow could have put us further ahead. In the second half Steve Wigley changed the team around a bit and that seemed to disrupt our flow. L'pool took over, scoring 3 second half goals. A big concern was Arthurworrey having to go off injured - only having just returned from a long lay-off. The Fulham starting line up was - Oberschmidt Donnelly, Arthurworrey, Passley, O'reilly Williams, Hyndman, Della-Verde, Evans Tankovic, Woodrow Here is the (brief) report from the Club - http://www.fulhamfc.com/news/2012/september/29/u18s-suffer-defeat
The U21s have a tough fixture away to Liverpool this afternoon. Here is Kit Symons brief pre-match comment - http://www.fulhamfc.com/news/2012/october/01/u21s-face-liverpool It's pushing the PR a tad to say that the team is looking to 'stretch it's unbeaten run to three games' given that one of the last two was a dull 0-0 against Middlesborough. The line up could be interesting with Frei needing some practice as do Kara and Senderos; possibly even Dejagah.
Afternoon lads, Liverpool fan here. Just thought I would let you know that the Under 21 game between Liverpool & Fulham is live on LFCTV (Sky channel 429 for those of you near a T.V) For those of you unable to get near a T.V, the Reserve & Academy Thread over on the Liverpool board will be providing regular updates on the game.
Cheers Chris. Should be a decent game. PS Kinda jealous of you guys being in the NextGen series and scoring twice away to Inter says a lot. Good luck in the rest of the tournament.
Liverpool 3 Fulham 0 (U21s) It was in fact a 'proper' U21 team we put out today - Trotta being the only squad player included. I'm not absolutely sure (it was a patchy stream from LFC I was watching) but I think the team was : .........Symogyi........ ..Brister..Grimmer..Musa..Kavanagh.. ......Minkiwitz......Pritchard.. ..LDV......Donegan............Banya.. ..............Trotta......... We played okay in the first half; neat passing but didn't really create anything and went in at half time 1-0 down - to a Joe Cole goal (12 mins.). We got out muscled and out run in the second half though with another two goals reflecting how much L'pool were on top. The goals were from Morgan and an OG (Ithink) by Kavanagh (from a low cross which Symogyi should have cut out). Minki who had been our best player in the first half was subbed by Altman after 65 mins and Islamovic came on for Trotta. As I said some neat football but, that phrase again, no cutting edge in the final third. Trotta did not impress; although he was playing up front on his own and didn't get much service, his touch and positional play was pretty poor.
Here is the Club report of that 3-0 defeat away to Liverpool - http://www.fulhamfc.com/news/2012/october/01/u21s-result
Our win earlier was completely comprehensive really. Top of the league still. Your right back looked quite decent, forget his name.
Cheers RA, talented side you have there. Our right back is Alex Brister. Any views on our No. 5 (James Mousa) - he's on trial and this was his first game ?
The quicker Jol can get Trotta out on loan the better, over the last year he has gone completely off the boil. It seems such a shame considering the raw talent he showed 12 months ago.
Couldn't agree more rosc. He's not going to get in the first team ahead of the current three and playing in the U21s (on his current form) isn't doing him or them any good. Strangely Jol wants him to stay, despite having received offers and has said in the last couple of days, "We've had some enquiries for Marcello but as the situation is now I need him here. He's making big steps and even though we've had enquiries from clubs - some from abroad - to take him on loan, I would like to keep him here."
The U21s desparately needing a good performance take on Chelsea at the Cottage tomorrow night (ko 7pm). It's an all ticket match so if you haven't got one already they are available on the gate. http://www.fulhamfc.com/news/2012/october/04/u21s-face-chelsea A boost to the team is that Kerim Frei will be in the starting line up, as he tries to re-gain match fitness.
Looks like Dejagah is also going to play - http://www2.premierleague.com/en-gb/news/news/barclays-u21-league-051012-preview.html Should be a good game looking forward to it. COYYW
Fulham U21s 3-1 Chelsea U21s Great win for the boys, with Tavares, Frei (with two assists), Rodders (with two goals), Senderos and Dejagah in action. http://www.fulhamfc.com/news/2012/october/05/fulham-chelsea-u21s
The Club report is a fair reflection on a really good game of football - Charlie Banya's goal was worth the entrance money alone. Where I'm going to differ is in the performance of some of the 'senior' players. First though the plus points - Frei was a bundle of energy all night before he was subbed after 70 minutes and an early first team return has to be on the cards Musa made a number of great blocking tackles and looked pacy Senderos had an solid game and of course that terrific 40 yard crossfield pass for Charlie's goal. However he didn't look quite fully fit and there were more than a few of those 'Senderos moments'. Grimmer was my MOTM; right back in the first half, CB in the second. So the not so good - Trotta despite his 2 goals flattered to deceive. He gave the ball away cheaply, was petulant and too many poor passes. Kasami also disappointed. He's so strong and very effective running at the opposition but his final selection (be it to shoot or pass) is poor. Dejagah in fairness was having his first game in 7 or 8 weeks and he looked strong/aggressive but there was no spark tonight. No evidence I'm afraid of 'electifying runs' or 'magical dribbles'. Tavares played the full 90 minutes which says a lot for him, given that he only signed a couple of hours before kick off. I'll just say that tonight he looked like Etuhu without the stature. Back to the positives. Over 2000 must have turned up on a dismal, wet night to watch a very competitive match. Fulham though were the deserved winners in the end.
No. no Kit Symons is so wrong, Charlie Banya's goal was of 'Messi proportions' : http://www.fulhamfc.com/news/2012/october/05/symons-verdict PS A good write up by Kit, stressing the difficulties of accommodating squad players into a burgeoning (and what was a settled) U21 side.
I had reservations about going to this one,due to the fact i have a chest infection, but this was one i did not want to miss, and i must say no way was i disappointed. Cottager,I concur with your general asessment, but for me the m o t m was Frei,( a wise choice to take him of early) Grimmer looked good showing versatility when moving into an alternative role. I liked the look of Dongean, who with Grimmer could be our future best prospects,as long as they dont go the way of Trotta. Senderos also putting in a solid performance. "And what a crowd on such a night" well done lads.
So is the under 21's side also the reserve team? If so, is this par for the course with other clubs? Has it taken the place of the development team? It's all a bit confusing.
Thanks for the balanced write-up C58! Frei and Grimmer both seem to have had a good match. The score is encouraging in itself, and that apart from the any win against Chelsea is good. Thanks for the extra view Roscarfe - Take care of yourself! C O Y W
