Just one simple question Michael WHAT THE ****!

10 no's what exactly did your abstention gain for anyone? thats another lifetime of huns without the bus fare you've just signed us up to, cheers.
 
It just seems like a giant finger to the fans and a sneaky funny handshake to the newco. Whether it is that or not that is the impression that it gives.

The day the whole of scottish football stood up to be counted , we just sat there. Will he vote on changing voting structure? league reconstruction? Increasing number of teams? fairer share of league monies? or are those issues not that important for him either? Cant wait to hear what he says.
 
You know I actually think I would rather he said "Ive listened to the fans feelings, but without money there is no club so I have to vote YES for financial reasons" he didnt even have the balls for that!
 
He is there as part of the SPL and had a decision to make as one twelth of the decision making powers of that league. He had to say "Yes" or "No" very simple really. In the SFL its against their byelaws to abstain because all clubs must make a decision on the running of the league, its their obligation for being a part of that league. He knew that every other club were voting NO, he knew that the Killie fans wanted him to vote NO so even in my basic understanding of politics you vote NO to keep your fans happy and appear like you were listening to them, even though you are aware it has no consequences on the overall decision. Lets be honest he wanted to vote YES for financial reasons but wouldnt change the decision so vote NO, keep the other SPL teams onside, keep the fans onside and look like your upholding the values of the game (even though you dont want to). actually BEELing at the moment should stop posting until have calmed down!

You could be right, unfortunately.

On the upside, however, at least Hearts should be spared this most wretchedly boring of jibes. To call others "mini-huns" or "Celtic-minded" etc speaks of a sickness born of unchallenged arrogance, a catastrophic failure to take on board the fact that other teams and their fans may live their lives without feeling any affinity whatsoever towards either Rangers or Celtic.

And if it's only a joke, how come it's never, ever funny? And how come it feels like they mean it? This distorting prism is maybe one of the main reasons that sensible discussions have (historically) been so hard to come by in Scottish football, with the two largest support bases sniffing out suspected bias or leanings in fans of other teams and deluding themselves that we buy into their grand vision of themselves as the be all and end all of Scottish football. In this foul exercise, they have been nimbly abetted by those predominantly Glasgow-based imbeciles who report on the game.

Still, maybe things are about to change. We'll see.
 
Poor show rogue, I would have at least expected the question about whether our new home shirts were going to have a yellow belly on them! (or a yellow stripe down the back!)

"a sickness born of unchallenged arrogance"? Yeeeesssht. My hyperbolometer just exploded <whistle>

Like many football-related songs/chants/phrases, these things are said to a large extent to mock or wind-up opposition fans (and are obviously effective in doing so). Much like singing "what a ****ey home support" etc etc.

On the other hand, some Celtic fans would say eg Hearts fans are regarded as "mini-huns" not because they are closet Rangers fans but because their behaviour is thought, rightly or wrongly, to be similar (in the sense that both are very strongly anti-Celtic and perceived by some to be anti-Irish/catholic). I tend to regard the stereotyping of any group of fans to be as least as likely to reflect one's own prejudices as reflect genuine features of that group.

It was pretty excitingly – and, dare I hope, arousingly? - hyperbolic, wasn’t it?

Still, given my present sullen disposition, I’m minded to stick by it and take on all-comers in a blood-spattered fight to the death (insert raging face here), although I must say that I quite liked this line: “I tend to regard the stereotyping of any group of fans to be as least as likely to reflect one's own prejudices as reflect genuine features of that group.”

There could very well be something in that. It’s certainly a pleasingly interesting way to look at things and neatly turns the spotlight back on those people who may choose to go down the path of stereotyping – which most (probably all) of us will do at some point, no doubt, despite our best intentions. Good stuff. (Insert another raging face here.)
