tell them Fulham signed Rossco for £11million and Madrid bought James Rodriguez for £67 million based on a good world cup so wither pay us £11million or £67million they're choice
 
inter are trying to get him for a knockdown fee as we've been relegated and they know that we would prefer to sell him. from our point of view its about maximising the fee.

it would have to be a permanent deal of at least £7m for us to consider selling. this could well rumble on for weeks to come tbh&#8230;&#8230;<ok>

VT is probably as wealthy as their owner and there is no reason to let him go cheaply. If we were in the same financial position as 4 years ago we would more than likely go for it. But we are not. We have just pocketed around £9m from 2 players sales and are actually more buyers than sellers - see Fonte and possibly Anya.

Medel wants Champions League football and I understand that but any offer less than £10m is derisory and an insult when his value has been enhanced by his World Cup performances. He is welcome to leave but only when the price is right.
 
Swampy - how can Dalman turn around and accept £7M when he's come out again saying this............

A defiant Dalman said: “We are not going to take a loss on a player who was a World Cup star in Brazil.
“We have made it clear what our price is and that won’t change.”
City will not accept a loss on a player they signed for around £11m from Sevilla a year ago, and won’t be bullied into accepting a lower fee.
“We will do the right thing for Cardiff City and the player,” said Dalman.
“Our position has not changed. “We will not take a loss on a player who did so well for Chile in Brazil.”

Inter being a "big club" are trying to bully this deal through with constant press releases saying how close they are - I sincerely hope Dalman sticks to his guns and tells them to **** off.

BTW, I don't know if anyone else has picked it up, but there's a rumour going around that City have offered Medel a new deal to stay with us to get us back to the Prem next season. It includes an incentivised payment reward for doing so, and an opt out much reduced release clause next season if we don't.

The other incentive (don't how much that would be to him) is we would make him captain as well as solving our CB problem if he stayed........interesting!!
 
Hadn't heard that Sparks although I thought we might try something like it. We could go with 3 cb's inc. Medel and that would give our wing backs more freedom to get forward.
 
£10 million seems under valued to me lads, especially after the way he played at the World Cup. What figure would you put on him?
 
I think we'd settle for 10 mill up front despite what Dalman has said, and that would be cheap when you look at the money changing hands at the moment.

Is Luke Shaw worth £31.5M? Is McCormack worth £11M?

There is still this rumour doing the rounds that we want Medel to stay next season and offered him a very good deal with a low get out clause if we don't go up at the first attempt.
 
i think if we're to sell him we'll need to take a loss. its about minimising that loss, as although clubs may bid more, the player has set his sights on inter, who are messing us about and trying to get him below market value.

both mccormack and shaw went to english clubs. they attracted a premium as in one case its a guarantee of goals, in the other because he's an english player who will fill the troublesome LB slot for years to come. medel is a defensive midfielder which doesn't attract a huge fee across europe. the buying club don't give 2 hoots about those transfers, or that we overpaid for him. all that matters is his current value, as of now.

to answer valleys question, if we were strong financially, and in the premier league, we may be able to achieve that price. as we're relegated, inter know we are under pressure to sell, and that the player wants to join. that explains their stance&#8230;&#8230;<ok>
 
I'm not saying that we shouldn't expect clubs to bid less than we paid for Medel, and maybe even having to accept it, but that was not my point.

I'm trying to get across that it would be very difficult (and not a little embarrassing ) for Dalman to come out repeatedly saying very publicly what he has, viz: -

Having paid 13M Euros for him, we will not take a loss on Medel, and then turn around and do just that. If he has any integrity, and he seems to ooze that, he'll stick to his guns or he shouldn't have opened his mouth. <ok>
 
championship clubs will have much less of a bargaining power than premiership clubs anyway and premiership clubs are forced to let a player move to a big foreign club if the player has indicated that he wants to go, That club then is in a strong position to get that player for a lower price than the selling club wants to sell him for. sometimes its best to recoup and minimize any loss than keep a player who has had his head turned.
 
Dai, with VT's money behind us we don't have to give him away. He had a great World Cup and that enhanced his value not diminished it. I agree that if he says he wants to go then best to compromise but what Inter wanted was not compromise, it was plain bullying and Dalman has quite rightly told them to foxtrot oscar.
 
I agree in principle Dai - if a player doesn't want to play for the club and his head is elsewhere, it's best to make the break. The fact is that with another 3 years left on his contract here, we are under no pressure to offload, and Dalman has made that plain enough to those "big clubs" that always come sniffing when they think another club is vulnerable.

If Medel wants to pout it out in the reserves, or not put together the performances we know he's capable of when he is selected for the side, the only one he'd hurt would be himself as to his future value and wage demands elsewhere.

It's becoming increasingly clear that the "relegation clause" that everyone has talked about only entitles him to talk to other clubs about playing for them - hence the deal he has apparently struck with Inter should he go there. There seems to be no obligation for Cardiff to let him go on a low buyout figure clause for two reasons...........

1) It would have been triggered by now by someone with the dosh to do it.

2) Dalman surely isn't daft enough to make the statements about not losing out on him for less than we paid when he'd know full well that we had no choice like with Campbell.
 
FFS - the guy signed a 4 year contract!! WTF does he and his chosen Italian new friends expect us to do - roll over and let him go just because he wants to?

Good to see that once again Dalman has come out and told Inter to put up or shut up. Medel needs to stop whinging like a spoilt brat and get back to the club to which he's contracted at the moment.

Well done City - now stick to it.

Due back this weekend apparently. Heard he was supposed to be back over a week ago now, but said he needed to complete some extended treatment on his thigh.

In fact, he left it to his agent to sort out a deal over here with Inter in the meantime to go straight to them, but it didn't come off.
