I'm in Scotland over the festive period and decided to watch Aberdeen play St. Johnstone. There are two things I want to discuss about this game; ex-Canaries and ticket prices.
Firstly the game finished 2-0 to Aberdeen with the home side very much the better team and David Goodwillie scoring a fantastic acrobatic overhead kick in the first half and Aberdeen sealed the three points in injury time on the counter - something I would like to see us do. Aberdeen defender Ashley Taylor was outstanding and won man of the match (sign him up Neeyul).
In St. Johnstone's starting 11 were two familiar names to me; Lee Croft and the legendary Simon Lappin. Lappin was easily their best player but was unable to prevent their defeat. It is good to see him getting first team football and I for one will always remember him as a true NCFC legend for his selfless service to the club. He popped up in all sorts of positions playing in central midfield, at left back and on the left wing over the course of the game. Reminded me of his versatility when he played for us.
The ticket prices at Pittodrie were IMO much better value than those at Carrow Road. £20 for adults (30-35 for our game against Huddersfield) and a very reasonable £13 for students and under-18s down to £6 for under 12s.
For many people ticket pricing is not an issue, but for me it is the single-biggest obstacle to me watching Norwich games. I only get to one or two games per season and for me £35 is a lot of money. On top of this I'm sure our ticket prices have got more expensive over the last couple of years. I am especially disappointed that after we drop down a division we don't lower our ticket prices. Of course with or without me Carrow Road will be full every time but I would love to watch games there more often, especially as streams can be hard to come by for Championship games.
Watching Aberdeen play was much better value for me and the game was no less 'entertaining' to me for those to whom 'entertainment' is an issue. With regards to this it seems crazy to me that you could buy two or three tickets to watch Bayern Munich or Barcelona play for the price of a single ticket at Carrow Road.
Norwich is my City and my team but I can't help but wonder why we (and many English teams) have to charge so much for match tickets.
