I think the only abbreviations I use are GTF and C.O. Theres a woman in her 50s that works with us and she sits beside a younger girl in her 20s. I was talking to the younger girl before and she said "OMG". The older bird heard her and asked what it meant. Now everyday I hear this ol doll overusing OMG to the point where you wanna tell her to shut the **** up and act her age.
I have the same problem at work I hate people on facebook who overuse the abbreviations just to act "cool". But the the thing I hate most is the word 'uber'... e.g. "last night was ubercool"
Yeah. I play dumb to the older woman and say OMB? Then she gets all "I'm young and cool" and replies "OMG - It means oh my god" Forgetting I was sat there when she learnt it weeks before. My hate is twats using all this garbage talk from shows like Only Way is Essex. Some girl I know put on her status about reamin or some ****e phrase they use to which I sent her the urbandictionary meaning to what it means to everyone outside of Essex.
Abbreviations seem to be playing a big part in my current every day life. Life, at times is a little hectic. You just don't seem to get the time to write all of what you'd like to say. This is a worry for me - especially I seem to not always get my message through to people. I feel that I need to apologise, in advance, to all contributors if I use abbreviations when I disrespect you on future threads. I now only have time to tell you to " Fuc Of "
I must say that I find the dramatic fall in standards of the linguistic and grammatical abilities of British youths extremely alarming. I am of the opinion that something must be done to halt this drastic slide towards a third world standard of living, which will ultimately come about as a consequence of modern generations being raised to be internet-obsessed dunderheads, obsessed with receiving constant feedback from websites such as The Facebooks, MyTube or YouSpace until well into adulthood. But, when all is said and done, I must admit to pmsl at some of da **** dat comes out ovv Not606 blud ya get me?
I really don't like any of these abbreviations, LennonsRage, and would probably never use them, although they can occasionally be pretty funny. Same goes for those smiley things, in fact. I can't stand them and would never use them and yet find myself forced to admit that - in the right hands - they can sometimes be used to a deadly effect. The thing I really dislike, however, is when people use the @ symbol inappropriately. They may be writing something perfectly mundane, something along the lines of âI was at a concert last night, Tarquinellaâ â which is fine - but they choose to jazz it up with âI was @ a concert last nightâ, instead. What are we to make of such people? Well, to be fair, I make about this much of them â youâll need to imagine my thumb and forefinger being held up and squeezed tightly together at this juncture. Does my frigging head in. <Luddite>
