<laugh> I would probably deny that.

Unless you are counting Led Zep in either of those categories (which I wouldn’t).

Okay, maybe Deep Purple. And the singer from Yes (John Anderson?). And that prick from Genesis, Peter Gabriel, the twat.

Okay, as you were. With you on the can’t stand though.

You would deny that certain prog rocks bands were talented?

    Pink Floyd?
    Rush?
    Jethro Tull?

    Or Heavy Metal
    Metallica?
    Motorhead?

Rush, Floyd, Genesis were all great bands.

Still are in the case of Rush, performing wise.

Deep Purple are just rock though, not prog, surely.

Not a fan of Metal though. I think Metallica are complete ****e.

Well of course I was being daft. I made a sweeping statement which I then qualified, didn’t really expect it to be taken seriously.

Floyd I would not really call prog though. They were a hangover from the 60’s psychedelic scene.

And Motörhead were a Rock n Roll band. Lemmy more in common with Chuck Berry than he did with Black Sabbath imo.

That whole early 70’s prog scene was a horror show though, and had to be put to death, violently, by punk <ok>

  6. The World changed, significantly for the better, the day Joe Strummer met Mick Jones. The day Howard Devoto met Pete Shelly wasn't too shabby either :)

Early 70’s rock music = hours of pointless twiddling, endless drum solos, and **** songs about elves. Practically no one was exempt (apart from Dr Feelgood).

I listened to this today. I love The Beatles, even the early pop stuff, but this is just magic. Elbow should never have been allowed to murder the first part of it to sell a John Lewis Christmas (for those who don't know, it's three songs that lead into each other towards the end of the Abbey Road album).

Also ****ing brilliant. Both John and Paul had incredible rock and roll voices for pasty Scousers.

And this is, arguably, the greatest track recorded by an ex-Beatle.

    Yeah, I agree completely .

I'm always baffled by Beatles haters. Each to their own I suppose but they were a great band and ****ing great musicians, which surely is the precursor for a proper band?
Their catalogue is superb. Pop, rock, psychedelica, whatever.

Can put a Beatles CD on, any album, anytime and it's still a good listen.

Abba is pop pap. Good but not on the same planet.

Disagree about the Elbow bit though. Can't stand the up it's arse bullshitness of John Lewis commercials but Guy Garvey has a great voice and did it a decent service IMHO.
