It's taken him that long to recover, both physically and mentally. As it is, he's showing good form now, so for that he deserves credit.
Conjecture... You've no idea of his mental or physical state. And I wouldn't call it 'good' form exactly. He's doing quite well. He was completely useless, but now he's improved to being quite good.
Well it's obviously a **** load better than when his leg was bent backwards the wrong way ! He wasn't useless either, he was showing good promise before that horror tackle and then suffered subsequently. His form is good now and that's why he's in the team
No he's in the team because Wilshere and Diaby are injured. Before the injury he looked like he could be great. I've yet to see any performance since the injury showing anything similar however. Two and half years is a long time.
Like I said, it's taken him that long to get back to anywhere near like his old form. Clearly his physical and mental state were not good after that injury. It's taken him a while, but I think he's showing decent form now and deserves some credit for it. Especially given some of the **** some fans have given him. He's worked hard, kept his head down and got on with it. That shows good character in my book. It remains to be seen whether he can take the step up to the next level to be considered a really good player at Arsenal, but I think he's on the right track.
Just a question, how long is too long? If he wasn't playing well after 4 years, would he still be "recovering from injury"?
Arsenal are probably one of the only clubs who give players a chance after long term injuries. With Diaby, it's probably now at the point where he's never going to make it with Arsenal, because he just has setback after setback. But in my opinion, a player like Aaron Ramsey has been worth the wait, because he is now showing signs of the promise that he had when we first signed him.
Ramsey cannot pass, full stop. He has a rich repotoire of hospital balls, passes behind trhe running forward, passes to the player under the most pressure, and complete "what on earth was he thinking" balls. The way he dithers and deliberates affects our attacking cutting edge. These two shortcomings in particular worry me about him as I do not think these can be ironed out. To my mind, this and the points above about his wayward passing suggests to me that he lacks what is termed "footballing intelligence". Alas, this is a common failing amogst English players these days. Xavi and Pirlo do simple things, but in doing so open up play and dictate the rhytym of teh game. Ramsey is light years away from this, and to be honest it is unfair to compare him with them. On the plus side, to drop him would be an easy option for Wenger, but the fact that he keep picking him means AW must think he has promise and will develop beyond what most people on his back think. Despite my strong views on him not being of the required quality, given that we re going to be stuck with him, and will not get an influx of quality players in teh future, I hope teh lad proves me wrong.
As I said, unless you appreciate that someone has to do the thankless task of covering for the rest of the team and just being there for a pass when we are being pressed, I doubt you will understand why Ramsey is a good player. He and Arteta are cemented into the team right now. They are the main reason for our success. Where do you think the improved defensive performances are coming from?
Got to be honest, despite my negative views towards him, he has actually been OK these last few games. Ignore my earlier comments, i think that was the beer talking. May be controversial, but i'd probably start him ahead of Jack right now. Why change a winning team?
To me its clear that Ramsey has Top Class ability. The haters will be made to look like WUMS. Much like Lucas at Liverpool fans have jumped on the bandwagon and every misplaced pass he makes gets jeers from the plastics. Lucas proved the Liverpool fans wrong and Ramsey will do the same at Arsenal.
I think the hatred towards Ramsey is exaggerated. He was rightly slated for playing crap, and he's rightly praised for his recent improvement. The problem is the people that praised him all the way through who, after having their bat**** crazy arguments, now think half the Arsenal fans hate Ramsey. It's not a matter of proving them wrong at all... because "they" don't exist in the numbers that some people think they do.
I know you are not going to accept statistics, and I understand that they don't show Ramsey's speed of thought or lack of it, but he does have very good passing stats, only just behind Arteta in completion % and ahead of him in other categories. He also has a very low turnover rate. My support for Ramsey, like for a lot of our maligned players, tends to be because so many of the Arsenal fans seeem to see no middle ground. A player is either god-like, or absolute dross. The reality is usually somewhere in between and most of our first team squad is top quality, or not too far from it. It is probably better, as someone suggested, to look at other teams. Players like Lucas and Carrick who were absolutely lampooned by their fans, are now considered vital players. Mata and Hazard on the other hand are turning out to be human. Although they are still fantastic players, they are not unbeatable.
Most of our first team are not too far from top quality? How far off United are we again...?? How much did we get humiliated by Bayern? Your condescending tones are really beginning to grate. And your comment that Premier League fans don't know how to appreciate players like Xavi and Pirlo... Sorry, but are you having a laugh? Ramsey is merely quite good. A squad player. There's not really a lot he does that much better than Denilson. He's better than Denilson mind, but not that much better. I don't think there's an issue with Arsenal fans having only polar views on our own players... I can quite appreciate that Ramsey is just about worth a place in our squad. But he's not going to help us win anything as a first XI player because he's not good enough. And central midfielders can't be passengers in trophy winning teams. If we had Sandro or Dembele in our midfield we'd be more solid (although jury is still out on both until Spurs do anything of note). But still, neither cost much and would have been easily attainable at the time of their respective moves. We need a top quality central midfielder and a top quality striker. Then another central midfielder to replace Diaby.
Hmm... mixed views about this comment. Diaby, I agree is probably finished at Arsenal. A shame because he's got the skill, but his body just can't withstand the injuries. I also agree that we need another top quality midfielder, in the mould of somebody like Goetze. We can't rely on Jack all the time and Rosicky is in the twighlight of his career. I don't think Sandro would cut it at Arsenal, Dembele would be an asset to our team though. But personally I think we should be aiming higher than the calibre of these two. As for Ramsey, he is doing enough at the moment to earn his place in the squad. And whilst it's taken a while, I think he deserves a lot of credit coming back from what could have been a career ending leg shatter. Like Walcott, who people slated too, spent most of his first few seasons with Arsenal getting through successive shoulder injuries and back problems and then proved his critics wrong. Ramsey is taking his time to get back to his best, but he is improving all the time and that's all you can't ask. Remember both Walcott and Ramsey are just in their early twenties, both have had to get over long term injury problems and both are starting to prove their worth to this team. My personal view is that they will both prove their critics wrong and go on to become very important players for Arsenal.
But again, how do we seem to compete favorably with chelsea and Spurs when our players are so much worse than theirs? Sorry if my comments grate on you but if Mata and Hazard were so much better than Wilshere Ramsey and Arteta, then they would be a lot further ahead of us. As for dembele and Sandro being better, give me a break.
