True - very important, but (there's always a 'but' ) in the face of an environment where youngsters have been tossed in at the deep end, doesn't taking greater care and slowly nurturing them count as innovative? Yes, there's nothing wrong with learning new ideas/concepts either - and there lies the problem. None of us were privy to the interviews held for this position, so we can't really be sure what transpired or what the board were actually looking for - we can only surmise. Having sat on many a panel interviewing prospective managers (not of the football variety unfortunately), I'm surmising that they were looking for someone who impressed with his vision and his ideas about how to manage the club in it's then current circumstances - and SD impressed enough to be selected. Having selected him, the board really have to let him put those ideas into practice. After all, what view would the fans take of a manager who changed ideas like he changed his socks every time a group of fans cried "Not happy!"?
I wasnt awhere we looked at any other candidates BB I thought he was the first one and in the name of continuity he was selected! before turning things totally about face ( granted with a lot of help from MM)! I must admit I thought it was a sound appointment at the time! after the last game of this season we will see (if not before)! He talks the talk ! Yet to be convinced he can walk the walk , I really hope he can, would be fantastic if we could get someone like O driscoll in to "advise" him in certain areas shame that will never happen ! IF GT walks away from the club , where does he get his mentoring from then ? thats the bit that really worries me about our club at the moment!
