Not with the Chelsea, man utd and citys maybe but are you saying you don't think we can, or should, be competing with the likes of wolves, Bolton, WBA, Fulham, Everton or even stoke?

That I cannot and never will accept.

I dont fear the rise of super rich foreign clubs. they can do what they want. I would be more than happy if the EPL followed the lead of the Bundesliga. Good players, sensible wages, full stadiums, cheap tickets, and they compete fairly well in Europe. I find the way the EPL is going a bit souless. I know I dont sing anymore at the ground. Dont know why, but I never used to shut up a few years ago when we were in the championship or when we just came into the Premier League. If Man City had suceeded in their attempt to give Kaka 500k a week as they tried two years ago I was adamant I was going to stop watching football................ Its totally disrespectful. I fear it wont change until the FA is restructured and grows a pair of balls. HAVE goal line tech, HAVE video replays for major decisions (same way they have it in tennis. give each captain, and captain only, the chance to call for video evidence once per game. if they are right they hold their chance, if they are wrong they lose it. It wouldnt be abused. RETROSPECTIVLY hand out bans the same as they do for violent conduct to players caught diving. So many simple things would help the sport connect again to fans, but the FA is made up of lords and businessmen and not fans or football men. Utter bollocks.

Sorry, this rant got side tracked.

But surely he backed Bruce being appointed in the first place, under his ownership?

We have had a 'spend what we bring in' policy throughout Bruce reign, he's NEVER been let loose with an open chequebook.

The point I was making that it would be great if everyone turned up for games with the attitude of making match days great occasions rather than getting all uptight and being miserable...I didn't say that we can't compete with the vast majority of teams.

Thing is he did back Bruce last summer, Bruce bought Gyan and we were in the top 6. Then Bent left and it all went tits up. When Short did back Bruce with big money it worked. The problem is those big money signings turned out to be tempromental.

I was thinking the other night if you could sign a team who were al from the North east so they would be happy living up here?? A midfield of Downing, Catts, Colback, Henderson and Johnson does not sound too bad??

I'd go along with that midfield.

Good subject, Bobby. Let's for the sake of discussion, take it ten years on. More middle east boys have bought clubs and maybe a few Russian energy dealers, too. Every EPL club is owned by one of them. They're paying billions in, and every player is on £150,000 a week at least. We'll be back to square one, won't we?

The only way forward, is to develop our own youth players, improve our global marketing, and learn to stand on our own feet. To hell with owner who can sell as fast as they can buy. Ellis Short, Randy Lerner & co are the only type of owner which makes sense. They're trying to develop Sunderland and Villa along sensible sustainable lines. It makes those clubs secure for the long term.

That's the future, to my mind. Keep those owners who buy an EPL 'toy' for their amusement. I'm 100% behind Ellis Short.
