I would say we lost a whole generation of fans because suddenly there were choices as to what to do. When I were a lad we didn't get dragged shopping with the missus on a Saturday afternoon, we didn't have PlayStations, we went to football or watched Grandstand to see the Charlton result come through on the teleprinter.

We also lost a generation of fans due to the local kids of Charlton not having a local team for a number of years.

My first post was a statement of fact, not a badge of honour. Nothing there I am particularly proud of. It You picked your away games based on the probability of not getting your head kicked in.

It was meant to highlight the fact that many of us went through a lot following the team and resent your posting, especially as you made it very clear it wasn't tounge in cheek.

That is unfortunately true, and Captain's point is certainly valid as well, it's getting harder and harder to find the funds to send yourself + kids to the game. But that's true across the country, not just at the Valley. It's a far wider problem with football, that seems to be getting worse.

And because of this, we allow TV companies to control football, before big TV there would never be a 12pm kick off on a sunday for London clubs to get North. I seem to recall a few years ago there was a 11:45 kick off for the TV and it got so much stick.

Or it could be that new fans come across shameful comments such as yours about culling people in the "wrong stand" and being "plastic" as they have just started to turn up. Other than being a "Vol clone", what sort of supporters would you welcome for the first time. They probably find a warmer welcome elswhere

Does being elderly make someone a duffer? Are they happy when the team plays badly? I'm approaching that state of affairs, and the difference is that when I was younger I used to yell "NELSON OUT!!" and even demonstrate against Gliksten, now I don't, but Mrs FHB still has to put up with my bad moods when we lose badly. I also got FHB jnr indoctrinated when he was young, and he loves singing "When I was young", but most of his friends when he was at school were glory-hunters, which I find very sad.
One thing I learned from what happened when they did eventually sack Nelson the second time: be careful what you wish for!

Think its time for another prolonged absence until Vol either sorts out his attitude and apologises or f**ks off for good.

Supporters in the East stand, you mean the stand my Uncle John sat in for decades despite his ill health right up until he died? The man that was laid to rest with red red robin playing at his funeral to then have his ashes scattered by myself and the other Charlton supporting members of my family at The Valley?

The same stand my Grandmother still sits in despite also being very unwell and in her 70's, and who brings a sandwich with her so she can take her medication with some food at half time?

I have been wound up by you in the past, but this has wound me up beyond belief. How dare you
