Agreed, Ponders. HRH, we don't need comments like that.

mike, isn't it a bit hypocritical to say the abuse from vol (if you can call it that) oversteps the mark when you completely agree with HRH calling him a 'd**k'?

This board has remained remarkably civil despite the intensified debate over the past few months. Let's keep it that way.

ordinarily yes, but to someone who is proposing culling fans? Why does supporting Powell apparently equal contentment with a situation where we've had no squad investment, are relying on youth, and are therefore looking pragmatically on what success this season...21st and Wembley... looks like? I'm angry at our club's position, but am perfectly prepared to supporting the view 'Vol is a dick' if he's labelling all our East and West stand fans as not-genuine... I thought we all wanted the best for the club.

    Well, it would.

The most famous mudlarker of them all, a2c (late of this parish) was full of bitterness.

    @ HRH

Calm down and put your dentures back in.

Then have a re read of Powell's comments after the game yesterday, and ask yourself what sort of message they send out.

A general observation. Have a look around at our supporter base on match days, including away. It is remarkably elderly. Lots of fans in the 55-75 age group, but you dont see a lot in the 30-40 age group. Unscientific, but true. Why is that ? Probable answer - we lost a whole generation of fans the last time we had owners who took the piss out of us, and our "supporters club" LOL took its eye off the ball.

The same thing could easily happen again.

It sent out a ... We were well beaten on the day lucky it was only a 3 goal defeat and we move on ..message to me.
And we do simple as that.
Though it's the east stand inhabitants who seem to get stick on here for supporting CP.
I have to say that being a north upper season ticket holder the majority up in the bleachers seem to be loyal powell items too .
The odd descenting voice is massively out numbered.

I'm not talking about Powell's comments, I'm talking about your facist notion that anyone who doesn't agree with your perception of what a Charlton fan should be like should be culled.

Think about the capacity of the Valley. We can't sit in the JS, you don't want anyone in the East or West. Will everyone - who hasn't been culled - fit into the Covered End? What if we don't want to sing? Will be then be culled as well?

We all have bête noires , yours is obviously Bovril dringing cardigan wearing supporters. They are still supporters and they don't boast about which away games they go to as if it's a badge of honour. They go to support the team, whoever happens to be playing or managing and however inept they are.

For the record and perhaps another thread, my bête noire is supporters turning up in Viglen and Mesh shirts.

I've noticed that, too, and although we undoubtedly did lose a lot of fans following 2006, I wonder if there might be another possible factor: having gained lots of young supporters through the 'Kids for a Quid' initiative (and others) during the 1990s, these new fans would have been in their late 20s/early 30s during the 2006-2011 period, the age when lots of them would be having children. That, combined with the generally tight finances of that generation (uni/mortgages etc.) could be a reason why there seems to be a larger proportion of older fans, who generally have more cash to spend, at The Valley these days.

    Just a thought.

"boast about which games they went to as a badge of honour"

Look at your first post. Who said self parody was dead.

The point I am making is that a lot of our fans are elderly duffers who are content with any old cack the club serves up. Look around you on match days ...
